Bagels, Breakfast And A 'Bite' Of Magic

Starting the school day right in South London
Starting the school day right in South London

The morning rush is a familiar and often chaotic experience for parents juggling getting children ready, fed and out the door on time for school.

Goldfinch Primary School in Streatham in South London has recognised that, for some families, it can be hard to fit in time to eat before leaving the house. And it's found a great way to help. The school has joined forces with Magic Breakfast to help lighten the morning load on families.

Pupils are offered a healthy breakfast each day thanks in part to players of People's Postcode Lottery, who have raised a whopping £3.5 Million to support the charity so far.

One Less Worry

This means youngsters start the day with the essential fuel they need to thrive and learn. In turn, parents get peace of mind knowing breakfast is one less thing they need to worry about.

Charlotte, whose two children attend Goldfinch, is one of the volunteer breakfast organisers.

She told us, "As a parent of two children, I know how important it is for them to have a proper breakfast so they can concentrate properly.

"My two are always ready to eat, but not every child is as vocal about being hungry. In the rush of getting ready for school, breakfast can easily be overlooked. But, just like adults, kids struggle to focus and absorb information when they haven't eaten, leading to heightened emotions of restlessness, tiredness, and distraction."

A Positive Start

Charlotte helps organise the breakfast arrangements for the children once they have all arrived at school - earning her a special nickname.

"The kids in school know me as 'the bagel lady', which is a title I'm proud of, knowing that I'm making a difference and providing these kids with a positive start to their school day."

Charlotte and the team at Magic Breakfast are now keen to spread the word so that every parent and child at Goldfinch Primary knows breakfast is at hand if needed, offering the perfect start to the day.
