Lucky Day In Leeds
10 September 2017 - LS11 9PN - Leeds - £30,000
Two players in Leeds are celebrating this week after winning big with People's Postcode Lottery. Their postcode, LS11 9PN, was drawn as Sunday's Street Prize winner, landing the neighbours £30,000 each.
Brian Beadle was shocked to receive his cheque for £30,000 from Street Prize Presenter Judie McCourt. "It's just about sinking in now," he said. "We're in no rush to spend it all."
Brian, who is a retired solider, was especially lucky as this is his first month playing. "My wife Jan and I had been thinking about signing up for a while, and I'm so glad we did. We actually told my daughter to sign up too as she lives with us, but she didn't do it in time and just missed out. She's annoyed at herself but delighted for us."
Brian and Jan have a few ideas on how to spend the money. "Jan would love to go to the Borough Market in London as well as Monkey World in Dorset as she's such an animal lover – we might be able to do both! My son and daughter will be treated too and we'll go out for a meal to celebrate."
There was one other £30,000 winner who was not at home to receive their cheque, but their winnings will be transferred directly to their bank account.
Judie said, "It was great to travel to Leeds today to meet Brian and find out how he's going to spend his winnings."
Players aren't the only ones who benefit from People's Postcode Lottery - a minimum of 31% of the ticket price goes to charities. To date, over £229 Million has been raised for good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
One local project supported by players is The Works Skatepark, which was awarded £7,500 for The Works Re-Vamp. The organisation aims to make non-traditional sports such as BMXing, skateboarding and rollerblading accessible and affordable for all.
There were also some lucky players in Cardiff who landed £30,000 per ticket when their postcode was drawn as Saturday's Street Prize winner.
