Play on Pedals
Based in Glasgow, Play on Pedals is the first project of its kind in Britain. It will enable 7,000 children under the age of five to take part in cycling and have access to bikes on a regular basis.
A large body of evidence demonstrates the advantages of cycling for individuals, communities and the wider economy. Cycling has physical and mental health benefits and can have a transformational effect on the lives of young people. It gives them independence, the opportunity to develop new skills, a fun way to maintain a healthy lifestyle and the potential to develop a passion for sport.
As well as young children, the project will engage their families and friends and bring all members and generations of the local community together. Coinciding with the Commonwealth Games, Play on Pedals aims to leave an enduring legacy of improved health and passion for sport amongst all participant.
