Woodland Trust creates, protects and restores native woodland across the UK.
The Woodland Trust is the UK's leading woodland conservation charity. Its vision is a country rich in native woodlands, for people and wildlife. The Trust owns over 1,000 woods across the UK which are all free to visit and enjoy. These woods support a wide range of wildlife and attract many thousands of visitors each year.
Thanks to amazing on-going support from players of People's Postcode Lottery, hundreds of community groups and schools across Britain will plant trees for people and wildlife through its Free Tree Packs initiative. In 2020, over 1.1 million trees were planted through this scheme.
Players' support has also helped the Woodland Trust purchase its 1st mountain - Ben Shieldaig in the North West Highlands of Scotland, home to rare temperate rainforest and Caledonian pinewood. In 2016, the Woodland Trust, along with Arkaig Community Forest, secured 2,500 acres of ancient Caledonian pine forest on the shores of Loch Arkaig in the Highlands of Scotland. Players' support is helping the Woodland Trust restore this amazing but degraded landscape over decades to come, as well as supporting its Ospreycam - a huge global hit!
In 2021, the Woodland Trust is part of #PostcodeClimateChallenge. Funding will help landscape scale projects from Devon, to Wales and the west coast of Scotland, supporting vital work in tackling the climate and nature emergencies. It will provide a call to arms across Britain to get involved with The Big Climate Fightback. It will also support Nature's Calendar, a vital record of the effects of weather and climate on nature - with volunteer citizen scientists across Britain providing data from their local neighbourhoods.
