Woodland Trust creates, protects and restores native woodland across the UK.
The Woodland Trust is the UK's leading woodland conservation charity. Their vision is a country rich in native woodlands, for people and wildlife. The Trust owns over 1,000 woods across the UK which are all free to visit and enjoy. These woods support a wide range of wildlife and attract many thousands of visitors each year.
Thanks to amazing on-going support from players of People's Postcode Lottery, hundreds of community groups across Britain will plant trees for people and wildlife through their Free Tree Packs initiative. In 2017, over 800,000 trees will be planted through this scheme.
Players' support has also helped the Woodland Trust find England, Scotland and Wales's Trees of the Year. They're asking communities across each country to nominate their favourite tree by letting them know why it's special to them. And urban communities are being urged to connect with and protect trees on their doorsteps via their Street Trees project, whilst schools are being encouraged to get outdoors for learning via the Trust’s Green Tree Schools Award - all thanks to players' support.
In 2016, the Woodland Trust, along with Arkaig Community Forest, secured 2,500 acres of ancient Caledonian pine forest on the shores of Loch Arkaig in the Highlands of Scotland. Players' support will help the Woodland Trust restore this amazing but degraded landscape over decades to come (see a photo report from Loch Arkaig (pdf, 962KB)).
Woodland Trust President Clive Anderson said, "Huge thanks to everyone playing People’s Postcode Lottery for your on-going support of the Woodland Trust.
"We believe life is better with trees, and your support is helping us to protect, plant and restore woodland across the whole country. Thanks again."
