Postcode Millions

Excited In East Riding

01 June 2019 - YO25 4PE - East Riding - £3 Million

It was golden envelopes, cheques and celebrations all round today as 338 East Riding residents each bagged a share of an incredible £3 Million prize.

This month we had not one but two Postcode Millions prizes being won. May's Mega Millions saw two winning postcode sectors, two £3 Million prize pots and over 1,000 lucky people celebrating a win. Just last weekend, everyone playing with the Torquay TQ2 6 postcode sector pocketed a share of the first of the month's multi-million-pound prize.

Today it was East Riding's turn to celebrate. Winners, alongside their families and friends, gathered at the Driffield Showground for a special event to discover exactly how much they'd won.

The lucky winners, all playing with the YO25 4 postcode sector, picked up a share of the Postcode Millions prize at a special winners' event. Eight Nafferton neighbours won the largest sums of money as YO25 4PE was revealed as the full winning postcode - netting them an incredible £178,213 each.

The rest of the money was shared among the other 330 local winners, with prizes ranging between £4,254 and £12,762.

Among the eight was lucky winner Susan. The former administrative assistant scooped £178,213 on top of £4,254, thanks to playing with the postcodes for both her old and current addresses! Her winnings totalled £182,467. Susan said, "I can't quite believe it. I was made redundant yesterday and it was my birthday last week, so to come here today and win this amount of money is just incredible. My redundancy was always something that was looming and now the worry has melted away with this win. It means so much to me."

"It Means So Much To Me"

Our winner Julie, who has been playing People's Postcode Lottery for three years was also a big winner. Speaking after discovering how much she had won, she said, "I've never won anything in my life before. I'm absolutely stunned. My daughter, Steph recently got engaged and we have a wedding to plan so I'd like to put the money towards helping with making her special day even more special and memorable."

John, a retired railway signal man, spent three decades working on the East Riding Railway. When he found out he had won a six-figure prize, he said, "I'm staggered and overwhelmed. For once in my life I'm speechless, I'm not known for being a quiet person but I couldn't speak. I'm currently renting so I'm going to buy a house in Driffield. I'd love a big garden and two garages."

Suzanne and her husband Will both play in the main winning postcode. Will is working away from the family home at the moment, but couldn't afford to get back in time for the event.

Suzanne found out she had won a whopping £178,213 on stage in front of 600 people. She said, "It's crazy. I've won a few times before but nothing like this – it's life changing money, it really is! We are in the process of buying a new house so I'll be able to phone them first thing on Monday to say we don't need a mortgage. It'll be a total surprise for my husband and the rest of the family!"

People's Postcode Lottery Presenters Judie McCourt and Matt Johnson handed out cheques to our delighted winners. Judie said, "A massive congratulations to all 338 of our East Riding winners! Matt and I have had the opportunity to meet so many amazing winners today, I always love finding out exactly what the prize money means to them and just how they plan to spend it. What an incredible and exciting start to the weekend for all of our players throughout the YO25 4 postcode sector."

Charities And Good Causes

With People's Postcode Lottery it's not just players that win, the thousands of charities that players support win too. A minimum of 32% of the ticket price goes directly to charities. Players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised more than £427 Million so far for charities and good causes across Britain and beyond. This prize was part of a draw promoted on behalf of People's Postcode Trust.

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is one charity to benefit from the support of players. In total, players have raised over £9.6 Million for the Wildlife Trusts collectively.

Terry Smithson, Director of Operations at Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, added, "With the support of People's Postcode Lottery we have carried out considerable restoration work in East Riding of Yorkshire recently, most notably at Spurn National Nature Reserve and North Cave Wetlands.

"At Spurn, we transformed building spoil heap areas into new habitat for the wading birds that flock to 'Yorkshire's Land's End' every winter. In addition to this, we purchased new fields adjacent to neighbouring Kilnsea Wetlands and created further wader scrapes - which are particularly important as highwater roosts for the Humber estuary."
