Winning In Wolverhampton
Four lucky Wolverhampton players got a very exciting visit when Street Prize Presenter Judie McCourt arrived at their doors with a cheque for £30,000 each.
The postcode WV10 9PA was drawn as the winner of this week's Sunday Street Prize.
Andrew Jones, Glen Spence, and Lesley Ingram were all shocked to find out what they had won.
"I've never won anything before," said businessman Andrew Jones. "I've worked since I was 14 so it's great to be given something for once." Andrew, who has been playing since the launch of the lottery in 2009, is keen to use the money for a trip to Cornwall with his daughter. "It would be nice to have a break," he said.
Outreach officer Glen Spence was also shocked to see how much he'd won. "I thought they were pulling my leg at first," he said. "When I saw all the zeroes on the cheque I couldn't believe it.
"For me, the money takes away any stress. My car needs a bit of love just now so I can decide to spend money on it or to change it for a new one. It's nice to be able to make that decision. I also want to help my daughter with a deposit on a property, and I'll be sure to buy my partner Jayne something too."
Lesley Ingram was delighted to meet Judie McCourt and receive her cheque. "I'm hoping this money will allow me to move closer to my daughter and grandchildren," she said. "I can still hardly believe I've won!"
Judie McCourt said, "I loved meeting some of the excited players of Wolverhampton today. They have great plans for their winnings, and I hope they enjoy spending it."
A minimum of 30% of the ticket price goes directly to charities. To date, players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised over £205 Million for more than 2,800 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
A charity just outside Wolverhampton that has received support from players is the Old Tree Nursery, which was awarded £1,800 last year for a project to replace portable plant and produce displays.
There were also celebrations in Birmingham as B34 7PX was drawn as this week's Saturday Street Prize winner, and over 300 lucky players in Bolton upon Dearne shared a massive £3 Million prize pot.
