Quite A Gift For Newton Aycliffe

03 December - DL5 5NE - Newton Aycliffe - £25,000

An early Christmas gift has been delivered to two pensioners from Newton Aycliffe, as they won £25,000 each with their lucky postcode.

DL5 5NE was drawn as one of two Saturday Street Prize winners today.

Jean Morris said her win will give her more independence, "The first thing that I'm going to do is buy myself an electric scooter that can fold up and fit into the car. The one I've already got is too big to take anywhere. I'm not so good at walking these days, so this means I'll be able to get around a lot easier. I might even be able to go on holiday with a friend.

"I've got three children and six grandchildren who I'll also be able to treat. This is a nice lump sum of money to win at my age."

Newton Aycliffe's second winner, Shirley Coates, was delighted with her £25,000 win. She said, "I just can't take it all in. I've only been playing People's Postcode Lottery for three months and I've won £25,000. I signed up after my son told me about it. He's won £10 before so maybe next time it'll be his turn.

"There's not a lot I need, so my main priority will be to treat my family. I've got four children, nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, but I'll try to keep some of my win for myself!"

A third winner was unavailable to receive their cheque, but their winnings will be paid directly into their bank account.

Street Prize Presenter Danyl Johnson said, "Christmas has definitely come early in Newton Aycliffe for our lovely winners in Pease Way. If you think you've got a lucky postcode, then sign up to play now and we could be visiting your street very soon."

Players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised more than £154 Million to date for over 2,000 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.

A project near Newton Aycliffe that has received support from players is North East Autism Society, which was awarded over £9,177 last year for a new sensory room.

It was a fun-filled weekend for so many players, as the second Saturday Street Prize was won in West Bromwich, £5,000 and a BMW were won in Datchet, the Dream Holidays prize landed in Denholm, and West Bromwich struck it lucky a second time by scooping the fabulous Postcode Millions!
