Smiles For Semley

03 March 2019 - SP7 9AU - Semley - £30,000

There were celebrations galore in Semley when a team from People's Postcode Lottery came to present one resident in the village with a cheque for a whopping £30,000

Joanna scooped the cash prize when her postcode, SP7 9AU, was announced as Sunday's Street Prize winner.

The 'Pawfect' Time to Win

Joanna, a mum of two who is self-employed and runs a holiday cottage next to her home, was with her husband Alan when she discovered how much she'd won. Joanna said, "It was nerve-wracking waiting to find out what the prize was, but now the excitement is just quite incredible. Winning this amount is really going to enhance life and mean we can enjoy it that little bit more."

There's something very special that Joanna would like to get with the windfall - a springer spaniel puppy! She said, "My dog Tess passed away from old age nine years ago and I think now might be the right time for myself and Alan to get another dog. We'll also be putting the money to good use by doing home repairs and getting all those odd jobs we've been putting off out the way. I might get a new car too."

Before Joanna gets to spending her prize, she plans to celebrate with her family. She said, "Everyone is thrilled for me and my daughter is coming home from university in Sussex to join the rest of the family, including my 93-year-old mother, for a lovely celebratory meal out. They've all signed up to play now too!"

Visiting Semley to give Joanna her golden envelope was People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Jeff Brazier. He said, "I've had the best time meeting Joanna and her husband Alan in Semley – what a beautiful place and what a wonderful winner!"

Fantastic Funding

32% of the People's Postcode Lottery ticket price goes to charities and good causes all over Great Britain and the world. To date, players have raised £393 Million for these fantastic causes. This prize was part of a draw promoted by WaterAid.

There are lots of good causes close to Joanna that have also been supported by players including St Mary Gillingham Scout Group. The group received £10,000 last year to purchase a new kitchen that can be used by everyone in the local community.
