Millions Lands In Leeds
438 neighbours from Moortown, Leeds have been left overjoyed after scooping a shared £3.2 Million prize in August's Postcode Millions draw.
All players in the postcode sector of LS17 6 netted a prize. However, three residents in particular were left stunned when LS17 6JE was announced as the full winning postcode, landing them the lion's share of the prize. Each of them received a cheque for an incredible £369,425!
Never In A Million Years
Paul and Julie, who were married earlier this year, each received a six-figure cheque. Paul was left completely shocked by their win. He said, "To be honest, I still don't believe it now. We never thought in a million years when we came here that we'd come home with this."
When asked if they had any specific plans to treat themselves, Paul said, "A new car, definitely!"
The couple also plan to retire early and buy their first home together.
A Win For The Community
The remaining 435 winners in the sector netted prizes ranging from £4,348 to £17,392, depending on how many tickets they played with.
Husband and wife Karen and Graham played with two tickets each, winning them a total of £17,392. Retired hospitality manager Karen said, "It's just incredible. After I had a £2,000 Postcode Lottery win last year my husband Graham started playing, so it's thanks to him signing up that we've won as much as we have this time round!
"It's Graham's seventieth in May next year and our son lives in New York, so we'd planned a big trip to see him and then travel on to Boston and maybe San Francisco. We both love jazz music so we'll be heading to all the best jazz bars and rooftop spots the city has to offer. Only now we'll be able to travel and celebrate in style. Winning this will make the trip all the more special and memorable for us."
The couple weren't the only ones in the family to celebrate a windfall. Graham's brother and nephew also won, each pocketing a cheque for £4,348.
Aileen collected a cheque for £13,044 and was overjoyed with her win. She said, "I couldn't believe it, it's absolutely amazing."
With three children at home, Aileen thought that some of her winnings would go towards a long-awaited family holiday. She said, "We should take them all to Disney World. I have been promising them that every year!"
People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Judie McCourt was handing out cheques to winners at the event. She said, "I couldn't be more pleased for all our winners in Leeds today. What a lovely surprise for them all and a great start to all their weekends!
"The community here has been so friendly and I'm sure there will be plenty of celebrations taking place across the neighbourhood tonight."
Thousands Of Deserving Projects
Today's prize is part of a draw promoted on behalf of Postcode Earth Trust (opens in a new tab), which provides regular grant funding to organisations that work to raise awareness and understanding of the natural, creative and built environment. Supported charities include Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and Keep Britain Tidy.
Local good causes have also benefited from player support. The Swan Song Project was awarded £20,000 last year to support terminally ill and bereaved people across Leeds and West Yorkshire.
33% of the ticket price goes to charities and good causes. To date, players have raised more than £950 Million for over 9,000 deserving projects worldwide. Our players are changing lives every day, helping people and the planet. Thank you for all your support - we really couldn't do it without you.
