Moolah For Mansfield
An incredible £240,000 is being shared between eight people on a street in Mansfield today. The Smith Street neighbours each pocketed a cheque for £30,000 when their postcode, NG18 3BG, was announced as a winner of today's #30KADAY Street Prize.
Lucky couple Katie and Eli, who celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary this year, both play with a ticket so scooped £60,000 between them. Katie couldn't believe her eyes when a golden envelope landed through her door. She said, "When I opened it I thought it must be a mistake. I was shocked, in disbelief and excited - every emotion you can think of we've gone through!
"It's life-changing for us. It's just made our lives so much easier. We've got two kids who are 9 and 11 and they've already written a list. My son has asked for a Ferrari and my daughter has asked for a pony so they're really excited. They don't understand the figure but they know it's enough to make our life better.
"We've not been abroad in about three years, so it would be nice to go somewhere warm next year and take my mum and my dad with us, as they've been so good to us.
"It's really just making people's dreams, that might've had to be put on hold for a little while, come true."
Lightning has struck twice for Katie, who processes mortgage applications, as it's her second win with People's Postcode Lottery. In 2016, she won £2,180 when Mansfield was announced as the winner of our Postcode Millions prize.
The win prompted Eli, a security guard, to sign up with his own ticket. Eli described the win as 'mind-blowing'.
Michael found out he'd won when he was on a break from work as a driver. He said, "I got a phone call from my daughter Abbie and she asked me if she could open the golden envelope from Postcode Lottery. She said, 'There's a cheque in and you've just won thirty grand.' I said, 'Don't talk daft' - I thought it was a wind up!
"It's surreal - you don't expect a value like that to be given to you. You save up and save up and then there it is in my hand already. I've been after a new car and I might use it for a deposit on a house too.
"My daughter has signed up for it now, and my mother as well!"
Michael likes the fact he's supporting Charities by playing. He said, "It's good to be putting something back, and with it going to local charities it's helping folks around you."
Street Prize Presenter Danyl Johnson spoke to our Mansfield winners on a video call. He said, "Congratulations to our six other Mansfield winners too - I hope they're just as pleased as Katie, Eli and Michael are with their prize! And who knows, maybe we'll be back to Mansfield for a third time!"
