Prizes For Portishead

04 November 2021 - BS20 7LN - Portishead - £30,000

Nine lucky players in Portishead are having a thrilling Thursday after scooping today's £30,000 Street Prize. Their winning postcode, BS20 7LN, landed each of them a £30,000 cheque.

Every day throughout our October draws we'll announce one postcode as a £30,000 Street Prize winner. Each player in that lucky postcode will win £30,000 for every ticket they hold.

Best Day Ever

Among our winners was Emma, who was left stunned with her cheque. She said, "I'm ecstatic, I'm absolutely gobsmacked. It hasn't sunk in yet! After this I'll need to go have a sit down.

"It's just the best day ever, it's brilliant. You hear about it happening to other people, it's awesome. It doesn't feel real."

Emma's windfall will allow her to treat friends and family, particularly those who helped her in the past. She said, "It will mean a great deal. I'll be able to repay people who have helped me out a lot in my life.

"We had a house fire eight years ago. When it happened one of my good friends put us up for a few weeks until we could be placed into new accommodation and she'll be one of those that I'll be taking out to say thank you. I'm a great ambassador for paying it forward. I think if you can do a nice random act of kindness, hopefully that person will then have a think and do something positive, too."

The mum-of-one already has some plans for her winnings and added, "I'll be able to treat my daughter and give her a few treats, and do some nice things for me as well.

"We'll book flights for me and my boyfriend to go to Thailand and visit my uncle. I haven't seen him in a long time so I think it will be quite a visit!

"I'm definitely going to get myself a paddleboard. Since lockdown started, I've been thinking about things to do to push myself and try new things out, and that is one of them."

Emma was thrilled to hear that players like herself have helped raise over £800 Million for good causes in Great Britain and internationally. She said, "That's incredible. It makes me feel really good. I support a local charity and I'm a charity ambassador at work. It's in my blood, I love giving to good causes and helping people that are having a hard time."

She has plans to help raise money for a local children hospital and thought she might book in a treat for herself afterwards. She said, "I'm doing a charity fire walk in a few weeks' time. I'm going to have a pedicure after that and maybe a massage as well! It'll be a good treat for me afterwards."

Emma was also pleased that so many of her neighbours had also scooped a prize. She said, "It's great, I think we'll have a joint party or something, maybe more than one! It's lovely that the whole street can benefit."

Horsepower

Another winner was Ian, who said of his windfall, "I'm absolutely elated, chuffed to bits."

Ian, who works with a golf equipment supplier, plans to treat his wife with his prize money and joked, "My wife is looking for a horse! She'd also like a car so she's got a choice, horsepower or real horsepower!

"She's been after a horse for a while and we've got some savings for it, but it was just the upkeep. Now she can have her dream come true again. She had one 10 years ago and she's almost like a horse whisperer, every one she sees takes a shine to her straight away!"

When asked if he planned to splurge on himself, Ian was quick to say that he'd rather treat his partner. He added, "I'll be quite happy to see her content! I don't really need anything, I'd just be really grateful to see her enjoying herself."

To start with, though, he and his family will be having a takeaway with celebratory twist. He said, "We'll have a meal with the family. We'll have a fish and chips supper with champagne! I'll foot the bill, of course!"

Best Thing Ever

Lucky Lynda learned of her prize win along with her husband, Duncan. She said, "I opened the door and it was the best thing ever! Someone holding a cheque that was far greater than I expected. It's amazing."

The couple have four children between them, and Lynda wants to share the good fortune. She said, "It's a phenomenal amount of money. It will allow us to do a few things that we'd like to do. I'm sure once we've told the children they'll be able to help us make plans for it!

"It's not just a windfall for us, it's a windfall for everyone. One of the kids is saving for a deposit on a house and another is in the process of buying. One is trying to follow a music career and my youngest is starting his own coaching service. I think they could all spend it quite happily!"

The couple also plan to use some of their winnings to renovate a campervan for next year's holidays. Duncan said, "We bought a campervan last year which needs a bit of work." Lynda added, "We were going to get it done bit by bit, but now we can send her off to the garage. We'll go the whole hog and get it looking beautiful so that next spring we can set off for holidays away around the country. We'd love to get to Europe at some point as well. That's our holidays sorted!"

Lynda, a freelance finance and admin manager, was also pleased that many of her neighbours are also celebrating. She said the community was really friendly and added, "We're really close, it's fantastic. It's something we'll talk about and share the experience. It's lovely to experience on your own, but to be able to share that with other people you know, it's amazing."

New Kitchen

Nick and his wife Kelly also received a knock on the door from our Lottery team and were left shocked with their win. Kelly said, "I feel like I'm in a bit of a dreamworld at the moment. I can't believe we've had the opportunity to win. I'm really excited and I can't wait to tell the family." Nick agreed and added, "£30,000 is an unbelievable amount of money. I'm a bit gobsmacked at the moment, which is unusual! It's fantastic."

The couple also have a few ideas for their winnings. Nick said, "We'll be able to do some of the things that we've wanted to do for the last few years, particularly with the house." Kelly added, "I'd like to spend the money on a new kitchen, I've wanted one since the day we moved in. But obviously Nick will have to agree to that." Nick joked, "I think we all know that means we're likely to get a new kitchen!"

Nick also thought that the couple could use some of their winnings to cover an upcoming holiday. He said, "We've just booked a new holiday for next year. We've obviously not been abroad for a few years, so this will cover that as well. We're doing a cruise around the Greek islands, somewhere we've always wanted to go."

Street Prize Presenter Danyl Johnson was in Portishead to meet some of our winners. He said, "A massive congratulations to all of our winners in Portishead today, it has been so lovely speaking to them and hearing about their plans. It sounds like there's going to be plenty of holidays coming up!

"Everyone on the street has been so friendly and I can tell it's a very close neighbourhood. I hope all the winners had a great surprise and that they have fun with spending their winnings!"
