What A Win For Wigan

04 July 2015 - WN2 5AE - Wigan - £25,000
Wigan player Kerry Brown was stunned to win £25,000 this weekend

A stunned Wigan player couldn't believe it when she discovered she had won £25,000 this weekend. Her postcode, WN2 5AE, was drawn as a winner in the Saturday Street Prize.

"I'm in shock," said winner Kerry Brown. "Things like this don't happen to me."

Kerry, 41, was relaxing at home with her friend Natalie when she was surprised by People's Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt, who presented her with her cheque. "I was not expecting to win so much," she said. "My husband Geoff was away this weekend and couldn't take it in when I told him."

Although Kerry is still getting over her shock, she does have some ideas of how to spend her winnings. "I've always wanted a Chanel handbag, so I think I'll have to splurge on one," she said. "I also fancy a new watch. I'll make sure to have my lucky postcode engraved on the back."

As well as a couple of shopping trips, Kerry would like to treat her family with the win. "We always go on a family holiday to Spain," she said. "This year, as well as my husband, son and his family, we can take my sister Lauren and her little girl. I can also help my son, James, with driving lessons."

Kerry, who has been playing People's Postcode Lottery since the end of last year, decided to sign up to support a lot of different charities. "As a support worker, I know how important funding can be, but I also find it difficult to choose just one or two charities to support," she said. "The great thing about playing People's Postcode Lottery is that I can support so many by playing."

Judie said, "Kerry was so delighted with her cheque, and I love that she has a clear idea of how to spend her winnings. I hope she has fun on her shopping sprees!"

There was one other winner in the winning postcode who was not available when the team called. Their prize money will be deposited directly into their account.

Players have raised over £75.6 Million for charities and good causes across Great Britain and internationally. One funded project local to the Saturday Street Prize winning postcode is Fix It UK, where an award supported their Motor Maintenance Training. Based in Wigan, Fix It UK work with disadvantaged young people in the local area to improve their life circumstances by engaging them in education and vocational training based around vehicle maintenance. The charity used a £6,174 award from players for refurbishment of a work area and classroom.
