Three Cheers For Cheshunt

11 February - EN7 6QH - Cheshunt - £30,000

Two Cheshunt residents have been celebrating this weekend after winning £30,000 each thanks to their lucky postcode.

The Holbeck Lane neighbours, who play with the postcode EN7 6QH, won the first of two Street Prizes this weekend.

Christophe Besty was shocked when Street Prize Presenter Jeff Brazier presented him with this cheque. "It honestly hasn't sunk in yet! I think it might take a while. My wife, Catherine, was out at work when I got the visit from Jeff and the team, so I put the cheque on her pillow and told her to go and find it when she came in and she couldn't believe it either.

"We celebrated with a family meal out - one of my sons is away at university in Bournemouth so I transferred him some money to get a takeaway so he could celebrate with us in spirit!

"I'm a builder and have to work all the hours I can to provide for our four kids and keep the house running, so this money will really help. I've taken a week off in a couple of weeks, so I'm going to enjoy relaxing and spending time with the family."

Laura Demosthenous was also delighted by her win. "We booked a holiday straight away when we found got the news! My husband Kos is from Cyprus and I've never been, despite having been together for 14 years, so we're going to take our two sons there. We've had a really stressful time recently with bereavements and having difficulties with our house, so the main thing we're looking forward to is spending some quality time together.

"I've done a lot of charity work and fundraised for cancer and Alzheimer's charities so I was encouraged to sign up by how much money from each ticket goes to charity, as well as having the chance to win."

Jeff Brazier said, "It was a pleasure to meet Christophe and Laura and present their prizes to them. They are both fantastic winners and I hope they enjoy their winnings!"

A minimum of 30% of ticket sales goes directly to charities, and players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised more than £175 Million to date for good causes across Great Britain and internationally.

A project near Cheshunt that has received support from players is Enfield Deaf Social Club, which was awarded £4,915 last year to hold health and wellbeing workshops in British Sign Language to combat the difficulties faced by deaf people in accessing information.

There was also a lucky £30,000 winner in St Minver this weekend, as the second of the weekend's Street Prizes landed in PL27 6PZ.
