Loadsa Lolly For Lanark
A home carer from Lanark has scooped £30,000 in Saturday's Street Prize with her postcode ML11 7AU, and plans to celebrate in style with her husband of 40 years. Marilyn, from Melvinhall Road in the South Lanarkshire town, found out she'd won the five-figure sum when Street Prize Presenter Judie McCourt called round to see her at home last week.
Our winner Marilyn said, "I'm absolutely astonished that I've won £30,000. This is a once in a lifetime experience that I won't forget. I'll be hanging the cheque on my wall.
"When I knew that People's Postcode Lottery would be coming here, I told them to knock on the back door as I didn't want anyone to see the front garden. I'll be spending some of my winnings getting that done up because it's a bit of a mess at the moment."
Marilyn and her husband Gerry recently celebrated their Ruby Wedding Anniversary and plan to go somewhere special! She added, "For our anniversary, we went to visit Skye for a couple of days and the scenery was stunning. I would like to see some of the other Scottish islands and we'll probably go overseas too for some good weather. It'll be a lot of fun to book up 5-star hotels now instead of 3-star hotels."
The mother-of-two, who sadly lost one of her sons eight years ago when he was just 30 years old, plans to share some of her winnings with her family, which includes two grandsons. She exclaimed, "I think they'll be really pleased for me and of course they won't be forgotten about with a win like that. They'll be acknowledged with some of the money!"
Street Prize Presenter Judie McCourt said, "What an amazing prize for Marilyn to win. She was the only winner on her street in Lanark, but if her neighbours had registered to play they too could have scooped £30,000. If you would like to be in with a chance of winning a fantastic cash prize like Marilyn, sign up to play today."
Good Causes Benefit Too
Players aren't the only ones who benefit from People's Postcode Lottery. With 32% from the ticket price going to charities and good causes, players have raised over £427 Million for deserving causes to date.
Marilyn's lucky postcode was picked as part of the draw promoted by Unicef UK, which has been awarded over £4.5 Million in funding. This vital support from players is enabling Unicef UK to keep children safe when war or disaster strikes by providing food, clean water and vaccinations. By protecting children from violence and exploitation, the organisation gives them the chance of a better future.
Local charities are supported by players too. Last year, Equitots Lanarkshire was awarded £2,000 to run a project that uses horses and ponies to encourage children with autism to get outside and have positive sensory experiences. The group provides a safe place where they can grow in confidence, learn and develop life skills, all whilst being outdoors.
