Revelry In Otley

11 October 2021 - LS21 2DU - Otley - £30,000

Eleven neighbours from Otley have started their week off in style after learning they've each won £30,000 thanks to their postcode. The cash prizes came after LS21 2DU was announced as a winner today with our #30KADAY Street Prizes this month.

Every day throughout our October draw we'll announce one postcode as a £30,000 Street Prize winner. All the players in that postcode will win a £30,000 cheque for every ticket they hold.

Prank Call

One of our lucky winners was Michael. When our Lottery team first contacted him about his prize he thought the call was a prank. He explained, "I couldn't believe it. The ironic thing was, about two hours before I found out I was talking to my son and two friends about the Postcode Lottery. Then when I got the call I thought it was one of the lads having a joke!"

When the dad-of-three shared the good news with his family, his son also thought it was a joke. Michael said, "I rang my son after to tell him I'd won and straight away he said, 'Yeah, of course you have!'"

The win comes at a great time as his family are expecting a new arrival. Michael said, "It was great news. I'm expecting my third grandchild next week so it couldn't have come at a better time."

When asked how he might spend his winnings, Michael was quick to answer. He said, "We're in rented accommodation and I'd like to put a chunk of it away towards a deposit to buy it. We've lived there for 20 years but we've just never had the deposit to buy, and now we have it."

He also wanted to treat a close friend to a golf trip. He said, "There's a group of us who go to Devon to play golf each year. My friend had called me the other day to say the deposit was due so I said I'd pay and he could get me back. But I've called him back and said forget about the deposit, I'll pay for us both in full.

"He's a close friend and he has done quite a bit for me. Last year my family got COVID and he turned up out of the blue and dropped off shopping for a few days for us. I've known him for years and I thought the least I can do is pay for the golf trip."

Michael also hoped to treat his wife and added, "She's already talking about a new bathroom! We need to sit down and discuss it all, no doubt with a bottle of wine."

With eleven people from his street netting a prize, Michael was thrilled for his neighbours. He said, "We've got a nice neighbourhood with nice people. We might have a drink on the green if it's nice this weekend!"

Icing On The Cake

Another happy winner was Susan, who almost missed out on her £30,000 windfall. The mum-of-two had recently moved house but was still playing the lottery with her old postcode. She exclaimed, "I couldn't believe my luck, I moved a week or two ago!"

Susan hoped to use her winnings to help achieve a long-awaited ambition. She said, "I'm going to go into business for myself. I'm a caterer and I've been saving towards doing this for a while. This was the icing on the cake."

First of all, though, she'll celebrate with her family. She said, "I'll take my family out for a big slap-up meal."

Street Prize Presenter Danyl Johnson sent his best wishes to all our winners. He said, "I could not be happier for our winners in Otley, what an amazing way to start the week. It sounds like a lovely community and I hope they all have fun with their winnings."

Good Causes Across The World

Today's prize is part of a draw promoted on behalf of Postcode Education Trust. This trust supports organisations, including AfriKids, Save the Children and Theirworld, which provide education, particularly in emergency situations, with regular grant funding.

At People's Postcode Lottery, 33% of the ticket price goes directly to charities, and our wonderful players have raised more than £800 Million for over 9,000 good causes across Great Britain and beyond.
