Street Prize

New Tredegar On Cloud Nine

12 April 2021 - NP24 6LG - New Tredegar - £30,000
Today's #30KADAY Street Prize has landed in postcode NP24 6LG in New Tredegar

Eight neighbours on a street in New Tredegar are celebrating today after each winning a £30,000 cheque with People's Postcode Lottery. The good news comes after their postcode, NP24 6LG, was announced as a winner of today's £30,000 Street Prize.

Every day across our April draws one postcode will be announced as a £30,000 prize winner. All the players in that postcode will win £30,000 for every ticket they play.

One Big Family

Among our winners was Gareth, who's a support worker. He learned of his win through a video call with Street Prize Presenter Danyl Johnson while surrounded by family members. As Danyl revealed his cheque the family erupted into cheers and Gareth exclaimed, "Oh my God! £30,000! I can't believe that, we'll have a lovely holiday this year! This means I can pay my car off and treat these kids."

The win comes after a tough period for Gareth and his family, and he was looking forward to sharing his winnings. He said, "My father passed away of Covid in January and my poor mum was having to isolate for ten days, so only I could go to console her, none of the other family could go.

"Then she unfortunately fell and broke her back. She's up and about now and my niece is taking her to a hospital appointment today. My niece is really good to mum, I couldn't manage without her. She's got three children and my nephew has a little girl as well. What I'm going to do is pay for all these kids to have a good holiday in a big five-star, luxury caravan in Tenby for two weeks!

"These kids have been pent up for a year, we're really going to make up for it now. We want to go to Tenby and see the walrus!"

Gareth was shocked to hear that seven of his neighbours had also won and was pleased for his close-knit neighbourhood. He added, "There will be loads of us having Zoom calls! There's loads of comradeship in the valleys, we're very fortunate in that respect. Round here it's pretty special.

"In this street we all are like one big family. When it's safe to do so we're going to have one hell of a street party!"

Gareth couldn't believe it when we first contacted him to arrange the video call. He said, "I was in work and I thought it was one of my mates winding me up!"

Absolutely Marvellous

Gareth wasn't the only member of his family to get a call from Danyl Johnson. One of the other winners was Alan whose partner, Nicola, is Gareth's cousin.  As they learned of their prize the couple burst into laughter. Nicola exclaimed, "Oh wow! Thank you ever so much. Brilliant, absolutely marvellous."

The parents-of-two were thrilled to be winning with their neighbours and Nicola highlighted the strong community feeling in the area. She added, "We're a little Welsh village, so everyone tends to know everyone. We're a very close community. To know that eight people have won £30,000 each today, it's just amazing. When we come out of lockdown we'll definitely have to have a street party and celebrate!"

The couple had a few ideas on how to spend their winnings with Nicola suggesting, "There's a certain part of the garden that could do with being renovated, but if I'm being honest Alan deserves a new car!" But their first plans were to celebrate at home. Nicola added, "I've got some steak in the fridge, I was going to save it for Saturday but perhaps we'll have it tonight instead!"

A Lovely Surprise

Another lucky winner was NHS nurse Tina, who learned of her windfall while on a break at work. As her cheque was revealed she clapped with joy and exclaimed, "Woo! 30 grand! Oh, that's fantastic, thank you very much!"

Her co-workers cheered on hearing the total, and Tina said she would buy her manager, who was holding Tina's camera phone for the call, 'a nice big cake.'

Tina already has plans for some of her winnings. She said, "I've got a house renovation going on, so I can plough it into that and buy my son a car. What a lovely surprise, I can finish off what I want to do with the house without having to save. Maybe a holiday next year. Our holiday to Fuerteventura was cancelled this year, but we might go further afield now."

Her plans for celebrating were a little closer to home, though. She said, "I don't finish work until half past seven tonight but I'll have a little celebration later! I'll have a couple of gin and tonics and maybe treat ourselves to a Chinese takeaway!"

Tina is also close with her neighbours and commented, "I'm so pleased for them all, it'll make a massive difference. We'll all be getting our gardens done for the summer!"

Alright, Innit?

Garry was another winner who received winning news while on a work break. As his prize was unveiled, he joked, "That's alright, innit? That's not bad!"

Garry, who works for a window manufacturing company, wasn't too sure how he might spend his winnings but thought a holiday might be on the cards. He said, "We'll have a think about it. We went to Mexico a couple of years ago and we wanted to go again."

Garry is also good friends with some of our other winners and when asked if they might celebrate he exclaimed, "Oh we'll have a party, don't you worry about that!"

Danyl Johnson sent his congratulations to all our winners. He said, "What a fantastic surprise for our winners in New Tredegar! I can tell it is a really close community, so I was thrilled to bring this great news to Gareth, Alan, Tina and Garry. Congratulations to them and all our other winners today, I'm sure they'll enjoy their winnings."
