Ten Big Winners In Nottingham
An incredible ten neighbours in Nottingham will have a very merry Christmas this year after scooping massive cheques worth a combined £275,000! Their postcode NG5 1LY was drawn as this weekend's Saturday Street Prize winning postcode.
One player from Fenton Road won an incredible £50,000, and nine others received a cheque for £25,000 each.
Fitness instructor Caroline Martin, who plays with two tickets, was the lucky winner who picked up a cheque for £50,000.
"I was not expecting to win £50,000," she insisted. "It's just so exciting! I signed up to play after someone I know won £200,000 in the Postcode Millions in Nottingham earlier this year, and I thought I'd give it a go."
Caroline, who is expecting the arrival of her first grandchild in March, can't wait to spoil the little one. "It couldn't have come at a better time. My daughter Ebony is expecting her first child next year, so I'll be able to help her get all the things any new mum will need," she added.
Florina Petcu, a school cleaner, and Vasile Stefan Prodan, a lorry driver, scooped £25,000 each. The couple, who have two young children, are planning a very special occasion.
"We are getting married in August next year back home in Romania, where our families live, and this will help us to plan a lovely day that we will never forget," said Florina. "It's such a joy to win. We both signed up to play together, and this is our first ever ticket. Playing People's Postcode Lottery spreads joy to players and to charities they support."
Another winner was Angela McDonald, who also won £25,000. Angela, who has two sons, a daughter and six grandsons says her win is bittersweet.
"My husband David passed away two years ago just before Christmas, and I always find this time of year quite hard. We'd been married for 38 years," she said. "Just as David was diagnosed with lung cancer, we were supposed to go on a family holiday to Tenerife. We had to cancel because he was too sick to travel. Now I'll finally be able to take everyone away for a nice break. "
Devon Wiggan was presented with his cheque on his doorstep. The single father of four was feeling very happy about his win.
"This will be a good Christmas," he said. "I can't believe that so many people on the street have won too – it's brilliant. I'm going to book a holiday to visit relatives in Jamaica."
The five other winning neighbours have chosen to remain anonymous.
Players have raised over £95.3 Million for charities across Great Britain and internationally. Several funded projects in Nottingham include The Vineyard Arches Trust, which received £9,920 in 2013 to provide low income households with basic kitchen utensils. Trees for Cities also received £5,000 in 2013 to plant fruit trees in public spaces.
People's Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt, who presented the cheques to the winners, said, "It's amazing that so many people living on Fenton Road can share this experience. It was lovely to celebrate with all the winners in Nottingham."
