Street Prize

Marvel For Marple

17 March 2019 - SK6 7LH - Marple - £30,000

Seven neighbours in Marple are in the money after their postcode, SK6 7LH, was announced as a Street Prize winner with People's Postcode Lottery.

The win saw the bank accounts of six of the Thornholme Road residents boosted by an incredible £30,000 each, while the seventh doubled their prize to £60,000 thanks to playing with two tickets.

Family First

Kathryn, a retired nursery nurse, was with her husband Steve and dog Gizmo when she received her cheque for £30,000. She said, "I'm elated! It sounds cheesy but it's all a bit of a dream. It's been lovely to celebrate with my neighbours. We only moved here last year but everyone's been so kind. We've already popped a bottle of champagne with some of them!"

With five daughters and four young grandchildren, Kathryn has a lot of family members to spend her winnings on. She added, "We're planning a family trip to Center Parcs soon, so the prize will go towards that – with such a big family the extra cash will be a great help. I'd also love to go abroad as we haven't been in years – I think Ibiza is on the cards! It's actually my husband Steve's 60th birthday next week – we already have a trip to London booked to celebrate, but now we can splash out on a show and not worry about going over budget!"

Kathryn signed up to play four years ago because she loved the Charities that players help to support. She said, "I love all charities but am especially fond of animal ones. Our dog Gizmo is a rescue dog, so I'm pleased that playing helps to support charities like Dogs Trust and Wildlife Trusts. It's a bonus that I've now won on top of this!"

Anniversaries and Alpacas

Kathryn's next-door neighbour Tony, a retired firefighter of 23 years, was the lucky double ticket holder. Tony was joined by his wife Angela when the People's Postcode Lottery team came knocking on his door. He said, "I'm overwhelmed to be honest. It's our 40th anniversary next month so it couldn't have come at a better time.

"I've no idea what I'll be spending the prize winnings on but after telling our daughter Rachel how much I'd won, she did ask for an alpaca so that's definitely given me something to think about!"

Also picking up a prize on the winning street was Sue. Sue, who like Kathryn is a retired nursery nurse, was on cloud nine when she found out how much she'd scooped and said, "I haven't quite come back down to earth yet – it's a very funny feeling but a wonderful surprise!

"I've got four grandchildren, two of whom live with myself and my husband Philip, but when the others come to visit we can't all fit into one car. It would be great to splash out on some new wheels so we can all enjoy family days out together."

Changing Luck

Retired Mary and her husband Ken were overwhelmed when they found out they'd won £30,000. She said, "It's amazing! We're all going to have some champagne together tonight to celebrate. It sounds so cliché but our neighbours are all so nice and I'm so pleased for everyone."

Mary hasn't decided what she wants to spend the bulk of her prize money on yet but there's one thing she will be treating Ken to. She added, "It's about time Ken got himself a nice new car. It's tempting to just be sensible and save the money, but he's been so unlucky with his last three that he deserves something new. I've got three children and four young grandchildren aged between 15 and 10 – they'll definitely be getting something nice!"

People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Danyl Johnson visited Marple and said, "There's nothing better than seeing neighbours share the joy of winning together – it's what People's Postcode Lottery is all about! I'm sure there will be plenty of parties coming up in Marple as our fantastic winners celebrate their windfall."

Good Causes Worldwide

With 32% of the ticket price going to deserving projects, players of People's Postcode Lottery have now raised £404 Million for thousands of charities and good causes across Great Britain as well as internationally. This prize was part of a draw promoted by The Wildlife Trusts.

Stockport Community County Foundation is one of many charities close to the winners that have also received support from players, and last year it was awarded £8,320 to run weekly drop-in sessions to reduce the loneliness and social isolation experienced by people in the community.
