Street Prize
Bonus For Bingley
Seven lucky Bingley neighbours, who play with postcode BD16 1QJ, won the first of this weekend's two Street Prizes today.
Six of the Langlands Road residents landed £30,000 each, while the seventh plays with two tickets and so doubled her prize to an amazing £60,000!
Michelle Mellor was the £60,000 winner. Michelle said, "I'm absolutely delighted with the win. I have an 11-month-old son and have just left my job to be able to spend more time at home with him, so this is really going to make things easier for us. We have two older girls too, and the house is getting a little crowded, so I think we'll use the money to build an extension so the kids can have a bedroom each."
Brenda Rutter has got some exciting plans for the winnings. "We're going to take a week away in May – maybe to Cape Verde as we've always wanted to go there – and we already have a trip to Cuba booked for September which we've been saving like crazy for, so the money will cover that too.
"I've got five children and eight grandchildren, so they'll all be getting a nice treat too. I just found out a few days ago that my daughter has another little girl on the way, so it's been an incredibly exciting week!"
Amanda King is hoping to kick-start her business after winning £30,000. "This means I'll be able to buy a café!" she said. "I ran one before but I've had to look after my dad, who has dementia, and it was a struggle financially. This money will mean that I can buy a business and not have to worry about the rent each month."
Amanda was extra pleased to win with so many of her neighbours. "We're all friends," she said. "The few who don't play have all been asking how to sign up!"
David Bairstow said the win has come at a good time. "I've just bought a new car which I'd expected to be paying off for some time but that's covered now, and my wife Anita and I have a few things we've wanted to do around the house, so we'll actually be able to now."
Beverley Brown said, "It's a dream. I can help my family out and maybe go on a holiday – and it's helping charities too, so it's a double whammy."
The two other winners were not available to be presented with their cheques, but their winnings will be transferred directly into their bank accounts.
Street Prize Presenter Judie McCourt said, "It was fantastic to come to Bingley with so many big cheques. Sign up to play and I could be knocking on your door very soon!"
A minimum of 30% of the ticket price goes directly to charities. To date, players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised more than £182 Million for good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
A project near Bingley that has received support from players is Baildon Imagination Library, which was awarded £1,999 last year to engage more children and help them to develop their reading skills.
There were also happy winners in Sowerby Bridge this weekend, as players in postcode HX6 3DA scooped Sunday's Street Prize.
