Street Prize

Triumph For Torquay

18 May 2021 - TQ2 7LU - Torquay - £30,000
Today's £30,000 Street Prizes are heading to four lucky neighbours in Torquay

Fortune has smiled on a postcode in Torquay today. Each of our four winners won a £30,000 cheque after their postcode, TQ2 7LU, was drawn in our Tuesday Street Prize.

Their cheques were revealed during video calls by Street Prize Presenter Danyl Johnson.

Really Happy

Jenna was among our lucky winners. As Danyl opened a golden envelope to reveal her Street Prize she exclaimed, "Oh my God. £30,000! I'm speechless. It's definitely a game changer. I'm shocked."

Jenna, who works for the NHS, was joined on the call by her partner Ryan who couldn't believe what was happening. He added, "No way. Are you winding me up?"

Ryan, a self-employed gardener, had a few family treats in mind when the couple were asked how they might spend their winnings. He said, "We've got three kids so I'm sure they'll take a bit of it up. It's our 10-year wedding anniversary this year, we probably won't be going abroad but we'll do something."

Jenna agreed on the holiday plans and said, "Maybe, next year, we'd like to go to Cyprus. We got married in Cyprus so it would be good to go back. For this year we'll probably take the kids to Center Parcs. We haven't been on holiday for a long time, so it'll be good to get away!"

The mum-of-three also planned some treats for the kids and added, "The girls are into their clothes and it's our little boy's birthday this week so no doubt he'll have some extra toys!

"I'm just really shocked, it hasn't sunk in yet. For us, that amount of money is insane, I'm just really happy!"

Blown Away

Neighbour Karen also received her very own £30,000 cheque. On seeing how much she'd won, she said, "You're kidding? That's unbelievable. Oh my gosh! That is amazing, absolutely amazing. I don't even think I can think of the words. Over the moon, I'm completely blown away."

The win comes at a perfect time for Karen who recently had an unusual start to a new job as an HR administrator for a hotel group. She said, "It's been a bizarre week. I started a brand-new job last week and my car broke down on the way! It cost £400 to fix it and I was late on my first day! I thought that I got lucky landing my dream job and starting last week, so for this to happen now is just absolutely unbelievable."

When asked how she might spend her winnings, Karen joked, "We'll definitely look at changing the car."

Karen's husband Mark also joined the call and suggested the winnings could be used for a family holiday. He said, "We missed out going on holiday last year for our 10th anniversary because of COVID, and we wanted to go somewhere a bit more special." Karen agreed and had an idea for a special trip for their young son. She said, "Oh my gosh, that's Disney money, that's Florida money. It might be more of a family holiday, it might be Florida!"

The couple were also looking forward to celebrating the good news. Karen added, "All the restaurants are opening so I think a meal is on the cards, and we'll perhaps get a bottle of something bubbly to go with it!"

Another lucky winner was Kellie whose husband Craig arrived home just as she was about to find out how much she'd won. As her cheque was revealed the couple were in disbelief. Kellie gasped before she exclaimed, "I don't know what to say! Wow. I never in a million years thought I would win."

The couple were quick to answer when asked how they might spend their winnings. Craig, a manager for a DIY company, said, "Our boiler broke before Christmas and we need to get a new one!" Kellie, who works as a teaching assistant for students with special needs, laughed and added, "And we're sitting on a broken sofa, so we'll get that."

The parents-of-two also had some treats in mind for their family. Kellie said, "It was our daughter's birthday last week and we couldn't celebrate as we'd have liked to have done because of lockdown, so we can maybe have a big celebration for her.

"Our son starts university in September, so it'll be nice to give him some money to make things a bit more comfortable for him as well."

Kellie was also hoping to arrange a holiday when possible. She said, "It's going to do so much, it means we can have a family holiday next year, hopefully. We would like to go to America, we'd like to go to Florida again, we have been there before, and it was amazing.

"I'm overwhelmed, it's going to make a big difference for us."

After the calls Danyl Johnson sent his well-wishes to our winners. He said, "A massive congratulations to all our winners in Torquay! It was lovely to speak to them all and bring them this fantastic news, I'm sure they'll all be over the moon and it sounds like they've got some special plans already. I hope they get to take those holidays soon and have fun treating themselves with their winnings."
