Street Prize

Ka-ching For Kilmarnock

18 October 2020 - KA3 1LH - Kilmarnock - £30,000

An aircraft fitter, nursery worker and court officer are among seven neighbours in Kilmarnock who have cashed in this weekend and won a share of £240,000 all thanks to their postcode! The Thomas Baird Gardens residents landed their windfall when KA3 1LH was announced as a winner of today's #30KADAY Street Prize.

Six of the winners each bagged a cheque for £30,000, while the seventh doubled their prize money to £60,000 thanks to playing with two tickets.

Bolt From The Blue

Neil, an aircraft fitter, described his win as a bolt from the blue. He said, "I said to my mother, 'I've won £30,000!' and she couldn't believe it, so I've said I'll sort her out with some double glazing. She's coming up for 80 and isn't in great health.

"I had no idea what to expect, it's all just come out the blue. This has been a bad year, a really bad year so this is a welcome bit of news, especially with it leading up to Christmas."

Memphis Bound

Nursery worker Jennifer has lived in the cul-de-sac for 17 years and said winning was "just like a dream." Jennifer has a few ideas on how she'll spend the prize, including on a dream holiday. She said, "I'd love to go to Memphis and Graceland in a couple of years, once COVID is all by, and just sit in the bars. I watched the television programme Nashville and just loved the whole atmosphere, and I fancy doing something completely different!

"I suppose I'd better take Jamie, my other half, especially after 22 years together! I've never had this kind of money in my life, so this has made my day and will make such a difference to my life and my two kids' lives too."

Jennifer loved that so many of her neighbours won. She said, "It's great to share it with people you've lived with for years. It's a pity we can't celebrate together but I'm sure we'll have a wee socially-distanced drink at some point!"

A Welcome Surprise

Lucky winner Grace nipped home during her lunch break from her job as court officer to find out how much she'd won. Grace said, "I thought it would be a grand, so when I pulled the cheque out it was a very welcome surprise. I had to go straight back to work, so when I got home afterwards and saw the cheque lying on the kitchen table it got me again.

"I'm meant to be in Florida just now but it was cancelled, so this definitely makes up for not being there right now. Winning £30,000 makes the staycation at home a bit better!"

Mum-of-three Grace plans to treat her daughters with her winnings and said, "My oldest is learning to drive and has her test booked for a couple of weeks' time, so I'll get her a wee car out of it. My two others will get something too.

"I've got a bottle of champagne in the fridge for when my husband Ronnie gets home from work. It's been in the cupboard since I turned 40 so I've been looking for an excuse to break it out. It's not every day you win the Postcode Lottery!"

Millions For Good Causes

Today's prize is part of a draw promoted by Postcode Dream Trust. This trust was established to support charities working on the prevention or relief of poverty, the advancement of health, citizenship or community development, public participation in sport, human rights, conflict resolution or reconciliation, or environmental protection and improvement.

Local charities close to the winners have also benefited from player support, including Independence from Drugs and Alcohol Scotland. Last year it was awarded £17,950 to improve disabled access to River Garden Auchincruive which helps support people recovering from drug and alcohol dependency.

With People's Postcode Lottery, 32% of the ticket price goes to charities and good causes. To date, players have raised more than £600 Million for more than 8,500 deserving projects across Great Britain as well as internationally.
