Delighted In Durham
This July, it's a summer of Street Prize winners. We've got whopping £30,000 prizes surprising winners in postcodes every day of the week. Today, our latest happy winners are two neighbours in Durham with postcode DH6 1AW.
Lost For Words
One of our lucky winners, Sue, is a great-grandmother who works as a lunchtime supervisor in a local primary school. She couldn't believe it when the golden envelope came through her door. She exclaimed, "I pulled out the cheque and I was lost for words - and that's unusual for me! I was with my husband Martin and never in a million years did I think I'd win this amount of money. I said to Martin, 'what do we do?' We were in shock - we couldn't even eat our lunch!"
The win is a welcome bit of good news for Sue. She said, "Unfortunately I lost my mum in March this year, which was very hard so I think she's been smiling down on me."
With two great-grandchildren, five grandchildren and two children, Sue plans to share her good luck with the family. She said, "I haven't seen the children or grandchildren for some time which is quite sad but I FaceTimed my children and let them know that there will be treats coming their way soon.
"We're hoping we can all get together at the beginning of August to celebrate with a few drinks and a big meal."
Once the family are sorted, Sue knows how she'll spend the rest of her winnings. She said, "Martin and I have always said if we won the Postcode Lottery then we'd love to get a conservatory, especially as we've such a big family and they're all getting bigger. I'm going to frame this cheque and then it can go up in there."
Street Prize Presenter Matt Johnson spoke to Sue over video call. He said, "It was lovely to chat with Sue and find out how she plans to make sure her good fortune is shared out among her family. It sounds like it'll be a celebration to remember when they can all get together in the new conservatory!
"I'm sure our other lucky winner in Durham will be just as excited with their prize - congratulations both!"
