Street Prize
Good News For Newport
One player in Newport will be delighted this week after winning £25,000 when his postcode, NP19 0JL, was drawn as a winner in the Saturday Street Prize.
Carl Morgan, 40, was overjoyed to be awarded his cheque by People's Postcode Lottery presenter and rugby legend Scott Quinnell. "I'm a massive rugby fun," he said. "I was thrilled to meet Scott, as well as receive the fantastic cheque."
Carl wasn't the only one who was shocked at his win. "My son phoned my wife Claire, and she was so emotional about it, she had to come home from work," he said.
Technician Carl has been a player for over a year, and signed up to help support charities. "I do a lot of volunteering work, so it made sense for me," he said.
Although Carl and his wife are still in shock, they have a few ideas on how to spend their winnings. "We'll definitely get a holiday booked," he said. "We went to Cyprus about 12 years ago and would really like to go back."
Carl is looking forward to celebrating with this wife and two sons and is keen to also use the money to help his eldest. "My son Louis is starting university in September, so hopefully this money will help towards his accommodation fees."
After presenting the cheque, Scott said, "It's always nice to meet a fan, and even nicer when I can hand over a large cheque. Carl was great. I hope he gets a holiday booked with his winnings soon."
Players have raised over £61 Million for charities and good causes across Great Britain and internationally. One charity near Newport, Somerton Dancemasters, was awarded £1,119 from players of People's Postcode Lottery to develop an under-14s dance club. The club provides opportunities for young people in the local community to participate in dance lessons and progress onto competitions.
