Excitement In Exeter
Seven Exeter residents are celebrating after their postcode, EX1 3HE, won the first of this weekend's Street Prizes.
Six of the Birchy Barton Hill neighbours landed £30,000 each, while the seventh plays with three tickets so trebled their prize to £90,000.
Mother and daughter Samantha Brooke and Shelby Hoer landed £30,000 each. Shelby said, "We're both going to buy new cars with our winnings. I need some new glasses too, and I'll keep the rest for savings."
Samantha added, "It's my 50th birthday this year, so it means I can do something special to celebrate."
Deborah Richards said the £30,000 win is life-changing for her. "I'm going to use the money to pay off debts and put some towards my mortgage – it's almost like getting a clean slate so I'll have more money each month. I'm also going to Thailand on holiday, so this means I don't have to worry about paying for it."
Lorraine Montandon knows exactly what she's going to spend her money on. "That's Vegas paid for," she said. "I've been twice already and can't wait to go back!"
The win was extra lucky for Gemma Corbett. "I'm actually just about to move house so I'm feeling incredibly lucky to have continued playing with this postcode – otherwise I'd be standing here watching everyone else receive their cheques."
Diana Stoneman was also shocked by her winning cheque. "It's a lovely surprise! I'll be sharing it with my sister and we'll be able to give some to our children as well."
The £90,000 winner was not available to receive their cheque in person, but their winnings will be paid directly into their bank account.
Street Prize Presenter Danyl Johnson said, "I've had a fantastic time meeting today's winners and handing out their cheques – it's always great to have so many winners on one street celebrating together. I hope they enjoy spending their prize money!"
Players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised more than £190 Million to date for good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
A project near the winners that has received support from players is Stop Abuse for Everyone, which was awarded £19,500 last year to recruit and train volunteers.
There were also celebrations in Newark this weekend, as players in NG24 4EZ scooped the Sunday Street Prize.
