Postcode Millions
Cash Galore For Wythenshawe
Wythenshawe is having a weekend to remember after the community celebrated scooping November's Postcode Millions prize. The win saw 491 people playing with the postcode sector M22 5 share the incredible £3 Million prize.
The full winning postcode, M22 5FH, landed one winner the biggest share of the prize money as she plays with two tickets. Lucky Elaine picked up an incredible £651,704!
Elaine had been waiting nervously with her family all morning for People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Danyl Johnson to arrive. She was stunned when she found out she had won the biggest prize of the day. The mother of six has 29 grandchildren, is a foster carer and also cares for her 90-year-old mother Hilda.
Elaine said, "This is life-changing, it really is. I really need a new car as I'm a foster carer and have to get the kids around the place, so want to get a people carrier. It also means I can help my kids out a bit and give the grandkids a really great Christmas."
"I started fostering after my children left home because the house felt too empty. Over the past 12 years I've fostered about 30 kids, I like to take whole families so they can stay together. I also lost my husband and youngest son a few years ago and fostering gives me something to focus on."
"I signed up because I wanted to support charities, especially local ones. But also I like the fact that I can support charities like Whizz Kids as my son was in a wheelchair after a motorbike accident."
Another excited winner was Robert, who works for the waste management team for the Council. He won £12,600 with three tickets and celebrated along with his dog Bella. Robert said, "I signed up four or five years ago because I wanted to support charities, and it is great because you keep winning the odd 10 or 20 pounds. I'm going to be using the money to do up my downstairs bathroom and I'll treat my wife, son and his friend to a trip to Florida. I'm heading straight to the Trafford Centre to book it! I'll make sure my dog Bella gets a new collar and some new clothes too!"
Colin, a local estate agent, was another big winner. He won £16,800 with four tickets. Colin said "I signed up to help Dogs Trust to begin with, but I also love the African charities that are supported. This Christmas I will be going to Bali to deliver clothes to children who lost everything in the recent earthquake and this will really help. I also enjoy diving so it would be brilliant if we could book a holiday to the Galapagos and go diving."
The remaining cash from the prize pot was shared between the other 490 winners, who picked up cheques ranging from £4,200 to £16,800.
Councillor Tommy Judge also bumped into the People's Postcode Lottery team as they were out delivering cheques. Councillor Judge said, "A big congratulations to all the winners today. It is fantastic to see everyone at Peel Hall Park celebrating together. This is Wythenshawe at its best."
People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Danyl Johnson said, "It has been an incredible day here in Wythenshawe, everyone has been so friendly and I have loved how many neighbours have come out on the street to support their friends."
With 32% of the ticket price going to charities, players have raised £361 Million for good causes across Great Britain and internationally. This prize was part of a draw promoted by Postcode Dream Trust.
A number of local projects have received support from players of People's Postcode Lottery, including The Creativity Group in Wythenshawe. The group was awarded funding of £2,000 earlier this year to run weekly support groups for people living with dementia.
