Great News For Gorebridge

25 February 2023 - EH23 4XB - Gorebridge - £30,000 + £5,000 Holiday

An army veteran has told of his plans to use his £35,000 lottery prize to pay for his mother's funeral as a "celebration of her life." David was one of four neighbours in Gorebridge to win today when his postcode, EH23 4XB, got lucky with People's Postcode Lottery.

Three residents each took home £30,000 and a £5,000 holiday prize. The fourth winner landed a combined total of £105,000 because they were playing with three tickets.

A Fitting Celebration

David, now a local chef, is going to use some of his windfall to give his mother a fitting farewell after she passed away last week. He said, "It's going to pay for my mother's funeral."

David said that the cost of the funeral had been a worry for the family. He added, "It's a load off our mind now. It's going to make a lot of difference.

"My mother was a very popular woman in the village. I've got about a hundred cards. It's like a florist in my house.

"It'll be a celebration of her life."

His win also means that he might be able to pursue a new passion. He said, "I'm thinking of retiring soon. I'm going to build boarding kennels. I train springer spaniels and I could do that for a living."

David added that he'd like to use his time to rescue, train and rehome stray dogs in Bulgaria. He said, "I was thinking of doing that for the rest of my days."

Bursting With Excitement

Christina, a great-grandmother, also landed £35,000 in prizes. She said, "It's been so exciting. I've not been this excited since my wedding day. And to think it happened in a place like this, to ordinary people like us, I'm bursting with excitement really."

The retired cleaner plans to share her winnings with her family. She said, "I'll spend it on what I really need to, and then have fun with the rest. I have a big family.

"I'd like to enjoy spending it with my family. We're going on holiday together in July so now we can treat ourselves a bit. We've never had money like this before so we'll have fun with it.

"We all help each other, that's what's good with this family, we all help each other."

People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Judie McCourt said, "I am so pleased to have brought this surprise to our winners in Gorebridge, it was so nice to meet them and hear their lovely plans for their winnings.

"I'm sure this win means the world to them and I hope they enjoy using their winnings for themselves and their loved ones."

Thousands Of Good Causes

Today's prize is part of a draw promoted on behalf of Postcode Animal Trust (opens in a new tab), which provides regular grant funding to organisations that work to educate, support and promote animal welfare and conservation. Supported charities include Dogs Trust, Riding for the Disabled Association and PDSA.
