Street Prize For Swansea

28 January 2023 - SA1 8BA - Swansea - £30,000

Nine people in Swansea received a very special delivery after their postcode, SA1 8BA, was announced as a winner of today's Street Prize. Our Street Prize team knocked on their doors and presented each of them with a cheque for £30,000.

Our lucky winners included:

  • Claire, a nurse who was accepted to do a Masters degree in Advanced Practice nursing on the same day as winning her Street Prize
  • Rachael, a grandmother and art tutor at Crisis, a charity for homeless people
  • Tom, a new dad who said the win had come at the "perfect time"
  • Gina, who has lived at the postcode and in the same house all her life

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Nurse Claire scooped £30,000 on the same day that she was accepted to study a Masters degree. Calling her win "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!", Claire said she could now afford to cut back her hours to focus on her studies.

The five-figure win would also help with treating her children to a trip to Walt Disney World in Florida and making some home improvements. She said, "This money means everything.

"There's plenty to celebrate as my oldest daughter has just graduated to become a nurse and is getting married this year.

"We're all going to Florida in August, which will be a part of their honeymoon. I think we'll upgrade a bit now."

Claire was delighted that so many of her neighbours had won. She said, "We love living here so it's nice to see so many people on the street winning."

A Giant Amount

Rachael cried out in delight when she caught a glimpse of her £30,000 cheque from Street Prize Presenter Matt Johnson.

She said, "This means a lot. It's incredible, you don't ever really think it's going to happen to you.

"We've never had that much money to know what to do with it. We'd like to help our kids out and take our family away with the grandkids and have a little holiday because we haven't had a holiday for a long time."

Rachael, who works as an art tutor for Crisis, said, "It's John's 60th this year, so I'm going to spoil him. I think we'll go to the Cotswolds with the whole family to celebrate."

Rachael's neighbour Jenna said, "Rachael is such a lovely woman and I'm so happy and chuffed for her that she's won the Postcode Lottery. She's worked with so many charities over the years that she deserves to have something back."

Perfect Timing

Neighbour and new dad Tom thought that his win had come at the "perfect time". He said, "It's brilliant, my wife and I were just planning to do the kitchen so it's perfect timing.

"We can also take our baby on his first holiday, so it'll be great. Anywhere hotter than Wales would be nice!"

Over The Moon

Gina was "over the moon" after receiving her Street Prize cheque. She said, "My priority has always been to help my family and friends. So, that's what I'm happiest about as I've never had money like this, and to be able to share it with them is just brilliant.

"I've lived here, in this postcode, all my life, in the same house and I'm absolutely delighted that many on the street have each won a share."

A Wonderful Win

Christine and Linda were also amongst our winners. Christine said, "It's wonderful! We really didn't think we'd win that much when the Postcode Lottery called to say they were coming. It's such a shock but what a lovely shock to have."

Street Prize Presenter Matt Johnson said, "A massive congratulations to our nine lucky winners in Swansea! It was my absolute pleasure to surprise many of our winners with this amazing amount of money. It's been a great day with plenty of big smiles across Kilvey Terrace. I hope they treat themselves to something extra special with the money."
