Postcode Millions

Superb Saturday For St. Helens

28 September 2019 - WA11 7LP - St. Helens - £3 Million

It's a September to remember for 897 St. Helens residents as they've each scooped a share of an amazing £3 Million prize pot in the September Postcode Millions.

Eight lucky residents picked up the biggest prizes thanks to playing with the full winning postcode, WA11 7LP.

Seven of our winners collected £166,666 each, whilst the eighth won an incredible £333,332 thanks to playing with two tickets!

Life Changing

Pat was the biggest winner of the day, scooping a massive £333,332. She and her husband Roy initially signed up to play to support charities close to their hearts. Pat said, "The fact that so many charities benefit is just amazing. Roy is an ex-serviceman, so we will be giving some of the winnings to Veterans of the Saints Community Development Foundation, which supports people who have served in the armed forces.

"I also helped start up Francis House Children's Hospice many years ago with my mum, so I'm going to give a donation in my mum's name."

Pat has worked at the local Asda store for 25 years and hopes to retire early. She said, "This money really is life changing. I can finally think about retiring. We go to Wales every year so there's a chance we can buy a place over there now, we've been talking about it for ages.

"We've been dreaming for the last week since we found out we had won and now those dreams can come true."

A Crazy Amount Of Money

Gemma, a health care assistant in the NHS, picked up a cheque for £166,666. When her cheque was revealed she said, "Shut up! This is a crazy amount of money. I never win anything... ever!

"I can finally move out and get my own place. There's seven of us in this house just now so my sisters will be deciding who's getting my room already. The first thing I'm going to do when I move out is party and celebrate!"

When asked what she would tell her friends about her win, Gemma said, "That I'm rich!"

Just So Easy

Retired supermarket worker Cynthia had been hoping to win enough money to buy a new phone and some gardening equipment. But when presenter Danyl Johnson revealed Cynthia's cheque, she discovered she had won £166,666. Cynthia said, "I am in my seventies now and I have never had more than £2,000 in my bank account. This kind of thing never happens to people like me.

"I was away when the letter arrived and a neighbour told me I had won the Postcode Lottery. I just couldn't believe it. I have only been playing for about 18 months and I have already won lots of £10 prizes. It's a no brainer, you sign up once and you don't have to go looking for tickets. The Postcode Lottery tell you if you've won. It's just so easy and now they're here on my doorstep!"

I Was Speechless

Liz, who works at Rainford High School, also picked up a cheque for £166,666. Liz said, "We have been watching the Postcode Lottery team delivering cheques all over the estate this morning and we knew they were coming to see us.

"But we only expected to win around £500 - I was speechless when I saw the amount on the cheque, I really was.

"This will really, really, lift the spirits of the whole community."

Liz and her husband, Vic, are now planning to use the win to support their community work. Vic said, "Rainford is such a nice community. Everybody on the estate supports each other - that's just what we do."

Our remaining 889 players in postcode sector WA11 7 received a range of different cheques. Players with a single ticket in the winning sector collected a cheque for £1,525. Players with two winning tickets picked up £3,050 and winners with three tickets pocketed a fantastic £4,575. Two St. Helens residents played with four subscriptions apiece and scooped £6,100 each. One winner in the sector played with six tickets and walked away with £9,150!

This is the third time the St. Helens area has won the £3 Million prize pot, with neighbours in WA9 5 winning the £3 Million monthly prize in late 2017, and WA10 6 residents scooping the same prize in December last year.

Presenters Judie McCourt and Danyl Johnson and the Postcode Lottery team were on location to deliver cheques to our lucky winners in St. Helens. Judie said, "It's been a fantastic day in St Helens today meeting our lovely winners. It may have been raining but I think our golden envelopes brought some sunshine."

Players of People's Postcode Lottery support amazing charities and good causes just by playing. 32% of the ticket price goes to deserving projects in the UK and around the world. This prize is part of a draw promoted by Postcode Dream Trust. This Trust supports charities who work to deliver highly innovative, impactful and engaging projects across Britain and further afield.

Local good causes have benefited from player support too. Earlier this year, Four Estates near Liverpool received £18,188 to run music classes with young people with mental health issues. The project is designed to help them overcome anxiety and depression as well as improve their communication and engagement skills.
