Postcode Millions

Betty Smith from Billingham has won over half a million pounds, and it's all down to her postcode

Billingham Neighbours Share £2.5 Million

The lucky pensioner was one of 119 people in the town to get a share of our £2.5 million Spring Millions prize pot.

Betty, who plays with three tickets, scooped £600,000. Her postcode TS23 3LU was revealed as the winner at a star-studded party in Billingham's John Whitehead Park. All players in the surrounding TS23 3 postcode sector pocketed between £3,300 and £80,000 each.

Betty said, "I was happy when I thought I'd won £3,000. When Judie pulled out a cheque for £200,000 I thought, 'Oh my God!' - then she pulled out two more. I can't believe it. It's too much to take in."

The 69-year-old is a full-time carer for her husband William, who has Parkinson's disease, and 18-year-old grandson Conor who suffers from Nystagmus syndrome.

Conor and Betty's son Rob came along to offer support. A delighted Rob said, "There can’t be anyone out there who deserves this more."

Betty plans to spend some of her windfall on a new home. She added, "This money will mean so much to my family. I'm going to buy a bungalow because my husband and grandson are disabled and it'll be easier for them to get around."

83-year-old Robert Lester, who plays with six tickets, won £80,000. Colette Anderson, 34, was one of 80 winners to pocket £13,340. She said, "I'm so excited, I can't contain myself. We'll use the money to pay for flights to Australia to visit my sister."
