How To Help

How To Sponsor A Child

How To Sponsor A Child

There are so many children around the world who aren't fortunate enough to be born into a loving family. Even if they are, that family may not have the means to look after them and give them the safety and security that they need. Fortunately, there are lots of organisations out there, working directly with children to give them the happy and healthy lives they deserve.

WHY SPONSOR A CHILD?

If you have a passion for helping kids, then sponsoring a child can be rewarding both for you and them. The World Food Programme estimates that 821 million people around the world do not have enough food. That's one in nine of the global population, while one in three suffers from malnutrition.

Many of those people are children. This is particularly sad considering the world produces enough food to feed everyone in it. Worse still, is knowing that as well as going to bed with hungry stomachs, children also get sick from drinking dirty water. According to Unicef UK, 800 children die every day due to a lack of clean water, proper sanitation, and good hygiene.

Not only that, but there are many children both in the UK and around the world who live in fear of abuse. That could be at home or school. If you want to sponsor a child, UK charities such as Plan International UK can help you do so.

HOW TO SPONSOR A CHILD

Help A Child In Need

There are lots of charities offering child sponsorship opportunities, including Save the Children. This is a great way to see how the money you contribute actually makes a difference. You can pick which child you want to sponsor, deciding which country they come from, as well as things like age and gender.

Sponsor A Refugee

Unicef UK data showed there were 10 million child refugees in 2017. Additionally, conflict and violence displaced a further 17 million children within their own countries. You can help transform a young life when you sponsor a refugee child, who's likely to have been through a difficult and traumatic time fleeing war or persecution.

Help The Whole Family

When you sponsor a child, you can help provide things like food, clean water, healthcare and education. But these won't just benefit the child, they'll help the whole family, too! Your efforts can even help entire communities, with more children able to fully realise their potential.

Buddy Up

If you can't spare any cash to contribute towards a sponsorship, there are other ways you can help. Charities such as Children 1st offer buddy schemes which pair up volunteers with kids and youngsters. You'll nurture a relationship and provide one-on-one support to help with things like building confidence, creating opportunities and dealing with abuse or trauma.
