Volunteering For Homeless Charities In Doncaster

Volunteering For Homeless Charities In Doncaster

Why Volunteer For A Homeless Charity In Doncaster?

Homelessness is an issue facing the entire country, but Doncaster is an area that has been particularly affected. While rates of rough sleeping have climbed steadily in almost all of the UK, Doncaster now has the worst rate of homelessness in the Yorkshire region, with 1 in every 642 people in the area living on the streets.

The good news is that, despite the scale of the challenge facing Doncaster, there are some wonderful organisations in the area that are helping to turn the tide. If you're looking to make a difference in your community, consider volunteering in Doncaster with one of these deserving charities.

Homeless Charities In Doncaster That Need Your Help

YMCA Doncaster

YMCA is a world-renowned charity that has supported vulnerable young people for decades, helping thousands upon thousands of those to reach their full potential as they journey into adulthood. You can find a branch of the organisation in Doncaster, where it does excellent work with the town's most vulnerable young people.

One thing the charity provides locally is supported accommodation for up to 30 people at any one time. This runs alongside extensive support services, including advice and training around finding a suitable home, and handling the responsibilities of adulthood. This incredible work helps take young people off our streets, and in many cases, stops them ending up there in the first place.

If you'd like to volunteer with YMCA Doncaster, there are several ways to go about it.  There's the dedicated charity shop, at the centre of town on Wood Street, which is staffed by a team of passionate volunteers. Open Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays between 10am and 4pm, why not offer an extra pair of hands for stocktaking or working behind the till?

YMCA Doncaster also asks that people fundraise on its behalf, taking part in community charity events in the town and beyond. In March of each year, it even runs a sponsored sleep out fundraiser that you could get involved with.
