Vital Support For Families
When cancer strikes young lives, CLIC Sargent is there to help limit the damage it causes beyond a child's health.
As soon as the doctor says 'it's cancer', CLIC Sargent social workers are ready to step in and provide emotional, practical and financial support to young people and their families. They help families to access benefits, offer a listening ear, and also liaise with a child's school or a young person's or parent's workplace, so they can focus on what matters most - getting better.
The charity helps young people or families to access hardship grants, to help with the initial costs that cancer brings. A family whose child has cancer can spend on average £600 more a month due to the financial impact that a cancer diagnosis brings. This includes hospital parking, petrol costs for travelling to and from treatment as well as keeping the heating on so their child stays warm while at home.
Homes From Home
CLIC Sargent's Homes from Home offer families a comfortable, homely place to stay for free nearby to where their child is having treatment. These homes are a vital support to young people and families who would otherwise travel for miles to go back and forth for treatment, or pay out for accommodation to be close by.
Its social workers are also there to help when the unthinkable happens. They offer help to young people and families if preparing for death, by arranging funerals and helping to make tough decisions. CLIC Sargent also provides vital bereavement support to families too.
CLIC Sargent works hard to make sure young people with cancer not only survive, but thrive. It also helps get young people back to school, college, university or return to the workplace. It is there to help young people regain their confidence and settle into life after cancer.
