Volunteering For Animal Sanctuary Charities In Plymouth
Why Volunteer for an Animal Sanctuary Charity in Plymouth?
It's a well-known fact that the UK is a nation of animal lovers, with 45% of households owning some type of pet. Sadly, though, not every creature is given the care it truly deserves, and too many end up out on the streets - or worse.
Animal welfare isn't just about pets, however. It's also about protecting native species who are at risk of having their natural habitats destroyed. Luckily, there are some amazing animal sanctuary charities out there which do great work when it comes to protecting both pets and wildlife.
People's Postcode Lottery is proud to support a number of these organisations that have representation throughout the UK. That includes animal sanctuary charities in Plymouth that do fantastic work thanks to the support of kind donors, volunteers and fundraisers.
If you live in the Plymouth area and would like to get involved, take a look at the following local animal charities who are always in need of extra pairs of hands.
Animal Sanctuary Charities in Plymouth That Need Your Help
Cats Protection was started nearly a century ago in London at a time when cats and kittens weren't treated as the loving pets they are today. Thanks to its dozens of rescue centres and charity shops that are now open around the UK, it's been able to give over a million felines better lives in loving homes.
It is one of the largest animal sanctuary charities that People's Postcode Lottery support, and so far, our players have raised over £3 Million for the organisation. As well as increasing that figure by signing up to play, you could also get involved in your own fundraising charity event in Plymouth.
Cats Protection also have lots of volunteering opportunities, including taking on shifts or donating appropriate items at the Cats Protection charity shop in the centre of Plymouth. Adopting a cat from the nearest rescue centre is also a fantastic way to help, as is offering to sponsor one or becoming a foster carer.
Animals Asia Foundation
The Animals Asia Foundation is an international animal sanctuary charity that's committed to stopping harmful practices and abuse to bears, dogs and cats living in Asia. While its head office is based in Hong Kong, they have a UK branch in the centre of Plymouth where the organisation tries to raise awareness, support campaigns and fundraise for the sanctuaries.
Though the charity doesn't have any animal sanctuaries in the UK itself, its bear sanctuaries in China and Vietnam have been able to save hundreds of bears from being exploited and abused. Animals Asia Foundation also does wonderful work campaigning against animal captivity, as well as educating local communities in Asia about animal welfare.
You could show your support for this amazing animal charity by joining the UK volunteer network, which helps organise charity events and frequently does street collections. You could also help simply by spreading the word and by backing the charity's campaigns on social media.
