Volunteering For Homeless Charities In Liverpool
Why Volunteer For A Homeless Charity In Liverpool?
Every night across the UK, there can be thousands of people sleeping on the streets. Unsafe, alone and cold, it's a situation that nobody would ever want to be put in. Cities are often where homelessness is most prominent - including places like Liverpool.
While recent statistics show that Liverpool is slowly reducing the number of rough sleepers on its streets, there's still much to be done to ensure not one person is left without shelter. Those that have already been helped relied largely on the various welfare services and temporary accommodation offered by a handful of incredible homeless charities.
You can support both national and local Liverpool charities by getting involved with volunteering or fundraising. Another really simple way to help charities is to sign up to play People's Postcode Lottery. That's because at least 32% of the ticket price is donated to good causes.
Homeless Charities In Liverpool That Need Your Support
Crisis is one of the largest charities in the UK that offers aid and support to the homeless. Originally started in 1967, Crisis now helps over 10,000 people every year find employment, housing and new opportunities.
The charity's ethos is that everyone should have somewhere safe to live. In Liverpool, the Crisis Skylight centre is able to offer a range of free services to the city's homeless, from supported accommodation through to mentoring, practical training, and educational or activities workshops.
If you'd like to aid Crisis Skylight Merseyside, the charity often has roles available to assist with workshops and classes, fundraising or even in the branch's new upcycled furniture social enterprise.
To date, our players have raised more than £6 Million to support Crisis projects nationally.

Emmaus is a large charity that was initially started in Paris after World War Two, to assist those who had been displaced or made homeless. It operates by creating communities for the homeless rather than just offering them a place to sleep for the night.
The charity opened its first branch in the UK in the 1990s and now has communities across the country. In Liverpool, Emmaus has a community in Seaforth that's shared by 28 people who live independently in secure accomodation, in exchange for working in the charity's social enterprises.
Emmaus Merseyside has three charity shops in the area that raise funds to help the local community. Why not volunteer your time to help stock shelves or greet customers in one of the shops? You could also donate high quality goods to be sold, assist with marketing and media tasks in the Emmaus office, do some gardening at the new community garden, or simply organise a fundraising event or challenge.
So much food is unnecessarily wasted in the UK every day. Luckily, FareShare is a wonderful charity that ensures some of that food gets redistributed to those who really need it. It does this by collecting in-date, surplus food from businesses and giving it to various charities and community groups across the country.
In Liverpool, FareShare Merseyside gives food to over 200 organisations in the local area, including those that assist the homeless. The charity is currently in need of volunteers in Liverpool to help distribute the food from its centre to the charities and groups that require it in the region.
