Edinburgh Zoo had 140 new residents when employees from People's Postcode Lottery descended on Friday 31st October to take part in a day of volunteering.

Edinburgh Zoo is part of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), one of People's Postcode Lottery's players' supported charities. To date, RZSS has been awarded £150,000 from players.

Our staff were on hand to support the zoo staff with some manual tasks including painting the Education Centre.

HR Director of People's Postcode Lottery, Jennifer McGachie, said, "We always strive to make our team days special and everyone was delighted to spend the day volunteering at the zoo. These days are about celebrating our achievements as well as bringing colleagues from different departments together. Having the team day at a charity supported by players helps to reiterate People's Postcode Lottery's core values. The day is about making a difference as well as having fun."

Rebecca Whitley, Sponsorship Manager of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland offered,"We are grateful for all the different ways People's Postcode Lottery has supported the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland this year. It has been fantastic to host their team day here at Edinburgh Zoo and our staff across numerous departments are thankful for the hard work their employees have put into the volunteering day. We hope everyone at People's Postcode Lottery enjoyed the day as much as we have, and that they have learned about some of the more unexpected jobs, for example weeding our Bamboo Nursery, which go on behind the scenes to maintain the Zoo."

Players have raised over £51.4 Million for charities and good causes across Great Britain and globally.
