Hurrah For Leamington Spa
Three Leamington Spa neighbours are celebrating this weekend after winning £30,000 each with People's Postcode Lottery. And it's all thanks to their lucky postcode CV31 3LX.
26 year old Gemma Behan was especially happy to be a big winner. "We can get married now," she explained. "Although I'm still in shock. It still doesn't seem real!"
She and her fiancé Matt have been engaged for two years. Winning this money means Gemma and Matt can finally tie the knot. "We'll get married as soon as we can now," she said. "We'll be able to book our dream barn wedding within the next year. It's come at such a perfect time."
Gemma, who works in IT sales, also has a five-year-old daughter to treat. "Megan will definitely be a flower girl but the only other thing she's asked for is a trip to the trampoline centre! I think we can take her a couple of times!"
Our second winner Steven Williams was joined by his wife Carol to pick up their cheque from Street Prize Presenter Jeff Brazier. "It's so surreal," he said. "I'm feeling very happy and very lucky."
Steven, who works as a database developer, has an idea of how they might spend the money. "We've had the same car for ten years so I think it's time for an upgrade," he said. "We live near some of the best car garages in the country so it will be really nice to go in and buy one outright."
There was another winner in the postcode who wasn't available to collect their cheque in person. However, their prize money will be paid direct into their bank account.
People's Postcode Lottery's Street Prize Presenter Jeff Brazier said, "It's been a fairy-tale Street Prize today with two lovely couples receiving £30,000 each. This money means that Gemma and Matt can have the wedding of their dreams. I wish them all the very best!"
A minimum of 31% of the ticket price goes to charities. Players of People's Postcode Lottery have so far raised over £221 Million for more than 3,000 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
One local cause which has received support from players is Achieving Results in Communities (ARC). ARC was awarded £2,000 to work in partnership with The Way Ahead Project, a drop-in day centre at the Salvation Army in Leamington Spa.
There will also be celebrations in Sheffield this week, as S2 1HB was drawn as the winner of Sunday's Street Prize.
