Prizes Flow To Westward Ho!

27 January 2018 - EX39 1UG - Westward Ho! - £30,000

An amazing lottery win has put the exclamation mark in Westward Ho! Ten neighbours from the seaside village in Devon won £30,000 for each ticket they play after their postcode, EX39 1UG, was drawn as the winner of Saturday's Street Prize.

Irene, who plays with two tickets, picked up a fabulous cheque for £60,000. Irene and her husband Michael are ecstatic with their cash prize. She said, "We didn't think this would happen to us, we're just ordinary people. We've lived here for ten years and it's a wonderful postcode. Westward Ho! Is the only place in Britain with an exclamation mark in its name, and this win makes it an even more special place for us.

"We'll go out to the local pub for dinner to celebrate. We don't need anything really, but winning this money means we'll be able to help out the children and grandchildren."

Another winner on the street is nurse Linda, who is going to use her £30,000 prize to pay for her wedding to childhood sweatheart Glen. She said, "We'll be getting married next year and now we'll be able to invite even more people to celebrate with us. We knew each other when we were 15 years old and Glen was my first love, but we only got back together recently, and after the wedding we'll move to a new house together."

Cancer survivor Raymond, who underwent a Laryngectomy six years ago, says he was going to play a round of golf to celebrate. He added, "It's a nice feeling to win £30,000, and I can't believe it! I'm glad so many people on the street had a taste of good fortune. My wife Beryl and I will be able to go on a cruise and help out our four children."

Retired teacher Rosemary and her husband George are planning to visit their son who works at Walt Disney World in Florida. They also plan to use some of their £30,000 win to buy a new car to visit their daughter, who lives in Bristol with her family.

Winner Sharon and her husband John will be taking their daughter to Disneyland Paris, and they're planning a special holiday in Greece later this year to coincide with their 10 year anniversary.

Rita, who worked in an amusement arcade in Westward Ho! before she retired, was also thrilled with her £30,000 win and is hoping to renovate her house.

The four other Westward Ho! winners were unavailable to receive their cheques from Street Prize Presenters Danyl Johnson and Jeff Brazier, but their prize money will be transferred directly into their bank accounts.

Congratulating the winners, Danyl said, "Jeff and I had a great day with our winners in Westward Ho! What a fantastic place and we got such a lovely welcome from everyone when we knocked on their doors. Neighbours winning together is what playing People's Postcode Lottery is all about. Don't miss out if your postcode wins a prize, sign up now!"

To date, £263 Million has been raised by players for over 4,000 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.

A local group that has received support from players is Rolle Canal and North Devon Waterways Society. The charity was awarded £2,000 last year to help restore the terminal basin of the canal.

Three lucky neighbours also won £30,000 cheques after their postcode was drawn as the winner of Sunday's Street Prize.
