Millions For Motherwell

July European Postcode Millions 2014
Our lucky Motherwell winners smile for the cameras with Scott Quinnell

Lucky players from Motherwell have plenty to celebrate as together they have won £320,000 in the July European Postcode Millions. One player, David Grier, was the luckiest of the lot and walked away with an amazing £64,000.

David was one of four residents in the full winning postcode, which was revealed today as ML1 3JP.These lucky winners walked away with the lion's share of the prize pot. Neighbours John McGlade and Margaret Clarkson, scooped £32,000 each.

"I can't believe it," said David. "This is life-changing." David, who has his own car valeting business, was joined by his partner Donna. "It's just fantastic," she said. "We're in shock."

David, who plays with two tickets, has been a loyal player since People's Postcode Lottery began and already has some plans for the money. "I could buy my house with this," he said. "Or at least put down a decent deposit. We have family in Australia and my 18-year-old daughter Kayleigh is desperate to go so we might arrange a family holiday soon."

David and Donna are looking forward to celebrating with their family, daughters Kayleigh and Sarah-Jane, son David and brand new granddaughter Millie. "We're still so over the moon to become grandparents to Millie so this has topped it off," said David. "I'm sure we'll treat our family a lot."

John McGlade was at work so his £32,000 cheque was presented to his wife Katy-Anne. "John didn't even tell me that he played," she exclaimed. "Winning must run in the family though because my granddad won £1,000 from playing People's Postcode Lottery a while ago."

Although her husband signed up without her knowledge, Katy-Anne knows why he decided to play. "John and I both try and do our bit for charity," she explained. "I know that players support many good causes and charities so that will be why he signed up."

After phoning John at work to tell him the good news, he rushed home to celebrate with his wife. "I just couldn't concentrate once I heard," he said. "I can't believe it."

John and Katy-Anne both have some great ideas on how to spend their winnings. "We've both always wanted to go to Vegas so hopefully we can do that now," said Katy-Anne. "We also hope to start a family soon and to do that we will need a surrogate. This money will enable us to begin that journey."

Margaret Clarkson was getting ready for her weekend away with family when she was surprised by People's Postcode Lottery Ambassador and rugby legend Scott Quinnell. "You must have got the wrong address," she exclaimed. "This is brilliant."

Margaret, a PA, was doubly shocked as she has only been playing for a couple of months. "I know people who won a lot at the Postcode Millions event in Kilsyth earlier in the year so I thought I'd sign up and give it a go," she said. "My daughter Sarah has signed up herself now."

Margaret was joined by daughter Sarah and her husband Tom as they were all preparing for a weekend away. "We're all going to Lochgoilhead for the weekend to celebrate my son-in-law's 30th birthday," she said. "There will be 50 of us altogether so my daughter has said the drinks are on me!"

Along with treating her family, Margaret would like to go on holiday and get some new tyres for her car. "My brother Roy bought me a MR2 for my 50th and it really needs new tyres. I've had a hard time of it so that was a very special present and I'd like to keep it looking great," she said. "I've also always fancied going to Mexico so I hope we get a holiday too."

There was one more player in the full postcode who won £32,000. The winner was not home when the team called but their winnings will be on their way.

There were a total of 263 winners in the European Postcode Millions draw, with prizes ranging from £511 to £64,000.

Scott Quinnell presented winners with their cheques in Motherwell today. "It was absolutely great to meet the players and hand over some nice big cheques," he said. "I'm sure that the winners will have a great time celebrating this weekend and will have fun spending the money."
