Big Hearts In Glasgow

How shy dog Daphne found her fur-ever home
Seven-year-old Daphne, an Akita cross, was scared of new people but has found love and a new home, thanks to Dogs Trust

A shy dog, who spent two years being cared for in a rehoming centre, has finally found her fur-ever family.

Seven-year-old Daphne, an Akita cross, was scared of new people and other dogs when she arrived at Dogs Trust Glasgow in 2021. She was so timid and lacking in confidence that she was constantly overlooked for adoption.

But thanks to the amazing kindness and patience of staff at the centre and a big-hearted Glasgow family Daphne now has her happy ending.

A Gentle Start

Enter 23-year-old Euan, his mum Jenny and his dad Colin. The family love larger breeds of dog, having had a German Shepherd and St Bernards in the past.

Euan saw Daphne on the Dogs Trust website, liked her immediately, and encouraged his parents to meet her. With help from Dogs Trust's behaviour experts, the three of them made several visits to the rehoming centre to slowly build a relationship.

"Daphne was nervous of us at first," said Euan. "But soon you could see that she was happy to see us and getting more playful."

The next step was for Daphne to visit the family's home, with a Dogs Trust team member there to reassure her in new surroundings.

"We live in the countryside outside Glasgow, so it's really peaceful," said Euan. "Daphne seemed to love it, so we made the final decision to bring her home this summer."

Best Decision Ever

Daphne is one of thousands of four-legged friends helped to find their fur-ever home by Dogs Trust, which has 21 centres across the UK. To date, our amazing players have raised more than £20 Million for this fantastic charity. That money is helping transform the lives of dogs and their owners.

"Daphne is a happy and contented dog and is definitely one of the family," added Euan. "She has a huge garden to run around in, and likes nothing better than playing with a ball. And of course she knows exactly where the treats are kept! Adopting Daphne has been the best decision ever."
