Barnardo's helps a young mum on her way to fulfilling her ambition

Becky wants to develop a career as a beauty therapist

Young mum Becky is planning a beautiful future for her family after landing a training spot for her dream job.

Becky, 31, wanted to develop a career as a beauty therapist but needed a course that would allow her to still look after her daughters.

Now, with the support of children's charity Barnardo's, she's on her way to fulfilling her ambition.

Becky said, "I wanted a good job so I could help my family. Having one person working is not enough anymore. It's hard to provide for your family like that and have a comfortable life.

"I really needed a professional qualification, but it had to be flexible as well.

"The truth is without Barnardo's, I don't think I'd be able to do it."

To date, players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised more than £11.7 Million for Barnardo's. That funding that is helping change the lives of more than 300,000 children, young people and families across the UK.

Becky is now training to become a beauty therapist through a Barnardo's programme in North Tyneside. The initiative supports children, young people and families to deal with the cost-of-living crisis and avoid falling into financial difficulties.

As well as providing employment training and skills courses, it runs play and early learning sessions, parental and health and wellbeing classes.

Moving Forward

Becky's working towards a professional qualification and is loving developing new skills.

She said, "I've been doing beauty therapy with a tutor called Julie. I feel that I can trust her not just as a teacher, but as a person as well.

"It's great because you feel like a family. The team gives me tips on finding work placements, jobs and helping with my CV. Everything that I have now is because Barnardo's helped me.

"It wasn't just coming in and getting a certificate - it was actually getting support and moving forward with my life. I love it here.

"I'm very grateful to Barnardo's for helping me get my qualifications."

Becky added, "I know some people who are struggling right now because of the cost-of-living crisis, and I tell them to go to Barnardo's!"
