Protecting Our Pets
This year, Battersea is celebrating five years of incredible support from players of People's Postcode Lottery. Over this period, the charity has received an amazing £2.9 Million to ensure they can continue to be here for every dog and cat.
Supporting All Dogs And Cats
Battersea aims to never turn away a dog or cat in need of help, ensuring they receive the best possible care no matter no long it takes to find them a place to live. They are experts in supporting vulnerable dogs and cats, creating lasting change for animals like Phoebe.
Phoebe arrived at Battersea's London centre as a stray after being found wandering the streets. The small Staffordshire Bull Terrier was emaciated but had very full mammary glands, showing that she had recently given birth to a litter of puppies. Her coat was in poor condition and she was anaemic due to being so severely underweight. It's likely that Phoebe was used for breeding then abandoned while she should still have been nursing her young. As well as providing the expert care she needed, Battersea has successfully campaigned for a clampdown on unregulated backstreet breeders. Luckily for Phoebe, she was soon rehomed to a new, loving family to begin her next chapter in life.
Five Years Of Amazing Support
Since 2014, support from players of People's Postcode Lottery has had a phenomenal impact across many areas of Battersea's work. It has allowed them to change the lives of dogs and cats across their sites and beyond their gates. This has included delivering expert veterinary care, campaigning to change the law, and supporting the volunteers they rely on to care for nearly 7,000 animals every year.
Catherine Miles, Fundraising Director at Battersea, said, "We are incredibly grateful for the continued generosity shown to Battersea by players of People's Postcode Lottery. Over the past five years, we have cared for thousands for vulnerable dogs and cats, and the £2.9 Million of funding from players has been vital in helping us to do that. As we continue to grow the number of animals we help find their forever home, we look forward to continuing to share this journey with players."
