Reinventing Renewables
With support from players of People's Postcode Lottery, the Postcode Earth Trust is partnering with Forum for the Future to support an innovative renewable energy project - putting power back into community hands.
Forum for the Future is a leading sustainability charity working to solve critical global challenges such as climate change. For over 20 years, Forum has worked with businesses, governments, civil society and communities to accelerate the shift toward a sustainable future. Together, they are reinventing the way the world works.
Community-owned energy is a low-cost way of taking practical action on climate change and saving money. It brings people together, gives communities control over where their energy comes from and generates income which can support local causes.
Bringing People Together
Our players are supporting Forum's PowerPaired project through Postcode Earth Trust. PowerPaired is a new online platform that will make it easier for community groups to develop their own renewable energy projects.
PowerPaired provides a 'matchmaking' service between community groups and the people who own appropriate sites for generating energy. This might range from a school that can offer its roof for solar panels, to a farmer who has space on his land for wind turbines. Groups can then generate lower-cost power on-site - for a community centre, for example - or wholesale energy that is fed into the national grid.
Dr Sally Uren, Forum's Chief Executive, said, "We would like to thank the players of the People's Postcode Lottery for their support in helping communities generate their own energy. With your help PowerPaired is set to accelerate the renewables revolution and put power back into communities' hands."
