The Breakfast Club Serves Up Confidence
Best meal of the day? Most people think so. And it's even more important when it comes to youngsters. But it's not always easy for parents and guardians to find the time - or the money.
A number of schools in Scotland have recognised that, for some families, it's hard to make breakfast a priority every morning. But help is at hand thanks to the charity Magic Breakfast.
Magic Breakfast provides around 4,000 daily breakfasts to children attending Scottish schools to help out families who are struggling - whether that's due to the effort of getting everyone out the door or because money is tight.
This fantastic work is supported by players of People's Postcode Lottery, who have provided £3.5 Million in funding so far.
One mum has seen first-hand the benefits of breakfast on her kids' concentration and behaviour throughout the day.
She said, "With the rush of getting everyone ready, there often isn't enough time to ensure that all the kids have been fed. The Breakfast Club, as we like to call it, has been a game-changer for my kids. They're so motivated to come to school early now, and it's great for building good timekeeping habits."
Another parent said the benefits have stretched far beyond a simple meal - it's helping one of her children grow in confidence.
"My middle child has totally blossomed since joining the club. Her social skills have skyrocketed, and she's become much more confident. She has even joined the girls' football team, which is fantastic, but it means she was hungrier than usual.
"Luckily, the team at Magic Breakfast and her school have been amazing and provide her with extra snacks throughout the day. It's a real lifesaver and makes a world of difference."
While these challenging circumstances are becoming more common for families across Scotland, it is heartwarming that the simple act of providing breakfast ensures the youngsters start each day with the essential fuel they need to thrive. And parents get peace of mind knowing breakfast is one less thing they need to worry about.
