Two Harlow residents have been celebrating this weekend after winning £30,000 each thanks to their lucky postcode!
The Corner Meadow neighbours, who play with the postcode CM18 7JN, won the first Street Prize of the weekend today.
One of the winners, Graham Weatherhill, has been through some very tough times over the past few years. "My wife Debbie was diagnosed with advanced cancer three years ago. The first surgery failed, and we thought nothing more could be done until she was referred to a hospital in London. She now has much longer to live than we had expected, which is a miracle.
"This money provides security for us – nobody ever plans for these events. We just keep looking forwards and always stay positive."
Bookkeeper Sheila Wingrove also won £30,000. She said, "My partner Danny and I are close friends with Graham and Debbie, so it was really very special for us all to win together.
"Danny is already retired and I had been planning to join him in the next year or so, but now I'm going to be able to do so a lot sooner, and we'll be much more comfortable with this win - for me, it really is life-changing.
"Before that, we're going to treat ourselves to a relaxing holiday to a cottage in Norfolk in June, and my two sons who are both in their early twenties will be getting a little something too."
Street Prize Presenter Jeff Brazier said, "It's been fantastic to meet Graham and Sheila and present them with their cheques. I'm delighted that the money will allow both of them and their partners to live more comfortably and treat themselves a bit – they really deserve it. Sign up to play and I could be knocking on your door very soon!"
More than £175 Million to date has been raised by players of People's Postcode Lottery for over 2,800 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
A project near Harlow that has received support from players is Alfie James Productions, which was awarded £2,000 last year to support elderly members of the community by running a theatre group which will explore reminiscence theatre and storytelling techniques.
There were also some happy players in Dundee this weekend as the second Street Prize landed in postcode DD3 7HB.
