Feeling Fantastic In Fareham

23 July - PO14 4JQ - Fareham - £25,000

A mother and daughter have won £25,000 each playing People's Postcode Lottery only a month after signing up! They were also just two of four lucky players as their postcode, PO14 4JQ, was drawn as the winner of one of the Saturday Street Prizes today.

Chef Katrina Walcroft decided to start playing People's Postcode Lottery last month because she wanted to find a way to give more to charity – and her mum, Sharon, followed her daughter's lead by signing up a few days later.

Little did they know, it would result in Street Prize Presenter Jeff Brazier coming to Fareham a month later with a double delivery.

Katrina said, "When Jeff pulled out my cheque and revealed how much I'd won, it was an amazing surprise. It was made much more special when I found out my mum had won the exact same amount.

"To be honest, I burst into tears as well but Jeff was on hand to give me a hug. Now, I can finally get a house and a mortgage because I'll have a deposit. It would have taken a long time to save up otherwise. I've started looking at houses already – my cousin is an estate agent so she is going to help me out.

"I signed up after I heard from my aunty that she had won £50 and a few £10 prizes playing People's Postcode Lottery and because 30% goes directly to charity, I thought I should play because I love charities. I told my mum about it and she signed up a few days later, but my dad decided he would wait. He's kicking himself now and he signed up the day we won!"

Katrina's mum Sharon said, "It was a shock when Jeff revealed I had won £25,000. I've only been playing for a month - I never expected it. Winning with my daughter is just such an amazing feeling – I am going to frame my cheque.

"I have never won anything before and when Katrina signed up to play I thought I'd give it a go – my husband wishes he had as well! I'm going to treat him to a holiday to Cuba so he's not too upset. I've decided I'm going to pay off some of my mortgage and have a new bathroom fitted as well.

"The best thing of all was that my man Jeff Brazier was here to present my cheque – I love him. He's so lovely!"

Luck didn't just shine on Katrina and Sharon, there were two other winners in PO14 4JQ: Kate Cameron and David Purkiss. By playing with two tickets, David doubled his haul to a whopping £50,000.

Street Prize Presenter Jeff Brazier said, "What a heart-warming story, Katrina signed up to People's Postcode Lottery to give more money to charity, and a few days later her lovely mum Sharon decided to play as well. I cannot believe they've only been playing for a month and now are each £25,000 richer as a result! It's true what they say – families that play together win together."

As a charity lottery, so far players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised an amazing £129 Million for charities across Great Britain and internationally.

A charity close to Fareham that is supported by players is Relate Portsmouth & District, which promotes health, respect, and justice in couple and family relationships They received £2,000 to transform their family therapy rooms with sofas, rugs, toys, and other aids that can be used to support their work and make a more relaxed environment.

There were also celebrations in Marton this weekend, as another Saturday Street Prize landed in postcode TS7 8LQ.
