A retired grandmother from Romford got the surprise of her life when Jeff Brazier came knocking on her door and presented her with a cheque for a staggering £30,000 from People's Postcode Lottery.
Patricia landed the impressive prize when her postcode, RM2 6EL, was announced as the lucky winner of Saturday's Street Prize.
The win couldn't have come at a better time for Patricia, who has been unwell for the last two years and is recovering from an operation to help straighten her spine and ease her sciatica. She said, "This has definitely lifted my spirits and after having two quite big operations over the last two years, I think that this will be the year I treat myself! I am a very lucky one, aren't I?"
"I'd love to go on a cruise around the Mediterranean and visit places like Gibraltar, Monaco and Sardinia. However, before that I'd like to go for a break down to Devon or Dorset as that's where my husband and I used to visit before he passed away. It's very exciting and I've lots to look forward to."
Patricia, who has two children and one grandson, is planning to have a double celebration next weekend as her daughter Vicky is getting married. Patricia added, "The wedding will be a lovely opportunity for me to see my close family and celebrate with them. They're all thrilled for me and I might treat them to a little pressie with the windfall! I'm also going to celebrate through the week with my best friend of 40 years, Irene. We're going out for lunch and will be sure to raise a toast with a glass of Asti, which is our favourite."
People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Jeff Brazier was thrilled to meet Patricia and said, "I've had a lovely time visiting Romford and making Patricia's day by delivering her a golden envelope with a nice big cheque inside. I'm sure she'll have the best time soaking up the sun on her cruise, as well as celebrating with her family at her daughter's wedding next week."
32% of the ticket price goes to charities and good causes. To date, players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised £404 Million for thousands of deserving projects across Great Britain as well as internationally. This prize was part of a draw promoted by Crisis.
Local Charities Benefit Too
Many local charities close to Patricia have also been supported by players including Haircuts4Homeless, which was awarded £2,000 in 2017 to help run its service providing free haircuts to people who are homeless.
It wasn't just Patricia who was in luck this weekend, another postcode earned a winner £30,000 in Sunday's Street Prize.
