The Big Green Weekend event saw 65 free local events taking place around the UK
October 29th, 2018
The Big Green Weekend is the national flagship event of The Conservation Volunteers (TCV). The charity hosted over 65 free local events which took place across the UK in September.
With something for everyone to enjoy, the Big Green Weekend was all about celebrating the brilliant work of dedicated volunteers across the UK. It was also a chance to encourage people to join in, make a real difference and have fun.
Attendees found themselves taking in part in activities such as hunting for bugs, weaving willow, conducting wildlife surveys, joining a Green Gym, planting trees, or just enjoying being in the outdoors and having fun.
Kirsty Grant, Citizen Science Officer at TCV, said, "We'd like to say a huge thanks to all the amazing volunteers across the UK who get out there come rain or shine and look after our much-loved green spaces. The work of TCV brings together communities, looks after their wellbeing and improves our everyday green spaces for us all to enjoy - which really is something to celebrate!"
Next month, TCV will also be hosting the Heroes Awards, a celebration of the people who go above and beyond to support the work of The Conservation Volunteers in local communities.
TCV Heroes Awards will recognise the impact that their people and programmes have across the country, improving health and wellbeing, supporting community cohesion, transforming the environment and helping people to learn and develop new skills.
Thanks to support from Postcode Green Trust, the event will take place at the Barbican Centre in London on 6th November 2018.
