Carmel McConnell, founder of Magic Breakfast, has been awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours 2016 for services to school food.

From buying and delivering breakfasts herself to a handful of schools in the London borough of Hackney fifteen years ago, Carmel now leads an ever expanding team providing healthy food and expertise to 480 school communities across the UK.

On hearing about her award, Carmel said, "I am delighted and grateful to receive this New Year MBE Honour, I hope it will help Magic Breakfast reach a wider audience of people determined to end child hunger in our classrooms".

Clara Govier, Head of Charities at People's Postcode Lottery said, "It's wonderful news to hear that Carmel has been awarded an MBE, it is certainly very well deserved. The work carried out by the whole team at Magic Breakfast is phenomenal and we are so proud that our players support their work and their continued success."
