Keeping Breakfast Going

Even during lockdown, Magic Breakfast continues to provide a nutritious start to the day for many children
Player-supported charity Magic Breakfast is a lifeline for children who often have no food at home

4.1 million children in the UK are living in poverty. That's 9 children in every class of 30 growing up too poor to afford the essentials that most of us take for granted.

Magic Breakfast normally provides healthy, nutritious breakfasts to over 48,000 children at risk of hunger, giving them the fuel they need to learn. Through its network of partner schools, the charity targets the most vulnerable children to ensure they have the best possible start to the day.

Following the government's instruction that schools should close, or stay open at a reduced capacity for vulnerable children and those of key workers, Magic Breakfast has been working to ensure breakfasts are still available to as many children from their partner schools as possible, whether they are at school or home under lockdown.

Breakfast Packs

Magic Breakfast, guided by its partner schools, and with the generous help of food and delivery partners, is delivering breakfast food to all those partner schools who have requested it. This includes cereal, bagels, porridge, baked beans and vouchers for milk. Schools are then either feeding children at school, and/or making up breakfast packs to be collected or distributed by school staff, or volunteers, safely to the doorsteps of families.

To reach children whose schools are closed, Magic Breakfast is also arranging deliveries of breakfast food to alternative distribution sites (nominated by schools), and is working with Amazon to deliver breakfast parcels for children direct to their homes.

Magic Breakfast is a lifeline for children who often have no food at home, and for parents/carers who can take comfort in knowing their children will be fed at the beginning of the day.

Alex Cunningham, the CEO of Magic Breakfast, said, "We have been hearing from staff at our partner schools just how much the breakfast packs mean to families with school-age children at home under lockdown. The support from players of People's Postcode Lottery during these difficult and challenging times is incredible and all of us at Magic Breakfast are so grateful. Thank you."

Magic Breakfast has received over £2 Million thanks to our players, providing breakfast for children across the country. No child should start the day too hungry to learn.
