Two neighbours in Baillieston got a lovely surprise when Jeff Brazier knocked on their doors to present them with amazing cheques. Their lucky postcode, G69 6JQ, was announced as the winner of Saturday's Street Prize.
The win saw one of the Swinton View residents scoop £30,000, while the second doubled their cash prize to an incredible £60,000, thanks to playing with two tickets.
Retiree Maureen was the lucky double ticket holder, and was with her best friend Cilla when she discovered exactly how much she'd won. She said, "When I saw all the zeroes on the cheque I felt my legs start to go from underneath me – I was expecting £1,000 so I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It really took the wind out of my sails because these things just don't happen to me. I'm sure I'll be the talk of the close now!"
Winning At A Great Time
The win has come at an ideal time for Maureen, who plans to treat herself to a well-deserved holiday, "It's lovely to get some good news as I was diagnosed with breast cancer six years ago, and I'm in recovery from that now. Having not been on holiday for over ten years, I think a trip away is definitely on the cards. I've always wanted to go on a cruise, but it’s never been something that I’ve been able to consider until now."
As well as treating herself, Maureen plans to spoil her son and her three grandchildren. She added, "You've got to spread your good luck around, haven't you? I'll be able to help my family out now and that's something that will really make me happy."
One of the reasons Maureen signed up to play is because of all the Charities she's helping to support, and she said, "I'm an animal lover and sponsor two dogs through Dogs Trust and a diabetic cat through PDSA, so it's great to know those charities alongside so many others are benefiting. Winning is just a bonus!"
Maureen's neighbour Andy was the second lucky winner. He was with his Yorkshire Terrier Aidan when he received his golden envelope containing his cheque for £30,000. He is also planning to travel with his winnings and said, "I've never been up to the north of Scotland before so it would be lovely to visit there."
Jeff Brazier In Baillieston
People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Jeff Brazier was thrilled to be in Baillieston, and said, "It's been my pleasure to make Maureen and Andy's day by hand delivering them a lovely big cheque. I'm sure they'll have a wonderful time spending the windfall."
With 32% of the ticket price going to charity, our players have now raised £404 Million for thousands of good causes across Great Britain and internationally. This prize was part of a draw promoted by Dogs Trust, which has received over £10 Million in funding to date.
A number of local charities close to Maureen and Andy have also benefited from player support including Deafblind Scotland. The group was awarded £20,000 last year to run its Connect 2 Support programme, which makes social welfare and welfare rights information more accessible to sensory-impaired adults.
